Got my first job. I'm a busboy at a Chinese Restaurant called Genesis.
Absolute first day of work, though, any hints as to please my Boss (no homo, he's a guy)?
I can tell you that the restaurant isn't high class or anything, either.

Be courteous, but don't take shit from the boss unless you enjoy doing so.
Also, customer wise, your their bitch. Always be compromising and sweet as can be to them. Make them love you. Make eye contact with guys and girls, smile constantly, be a good dude.
That's how I'd do it, anyway

Do as he says. You don't need the affiliated Chinese Triad gang slicing you open in your sleep because you refused to serve the poisoned General Tso's to the chief of police.

Be on time. Look presentable. Do your job as efficiently as possible but don't be over-enthusiastic. Smile.

My boss is awesome man, really. He's always happy, cracking jokes...
But the worst thing is that I'm literally the only fluent English speaker there. There are like 2 other white people, but they both have heavy texan accents. The boss speaks decent english, at least.

Congratulations. In these days, cling to your job like no other, and be thankful you have disposable income. As to impressing your boss, be kind, polite, and friendly. Listen to the veterans and heed their advice. Work hard and expect little.

If you really want to impress your boss ask questions. Even if you think you know how to do something, ask. Bosses, especially at restaurants love when there employees try to learn everything, especially if it prevents accidents and mistakes in the food.
But just don't be annoying about it.

The scary thing is, I've been to that restaurant before. Congrats on getting the job! Just work hard and it'll pay off.

Most people are very careless such as myself, with our first jobs, just remember to never let him you see slack off, always working hard, and when theres nothing todo, find something todo, always look busy, and obey him.

Then learn Chinese. Learn their ways, especially their various methods of torture. Also, if you're really desperate, free handjobs can't hurt either.

I was a busser and the best thing I can say is keep you eye on the parking lot so you will know when customers are coming. Also make sure to keep an eye on who is finishing up their food so you know how much "down time" you have. During said "down time" do your other work and LOOK BUSY!

I disagree with that. He should be courteous and helpful with the customers, but they should also show him a standard level of respect that you would expect from anyone.
I really don't like this consumerist idea that people can treat those who work in the service industry like shit. OP, if you let them walk over you, it dents your confidence and your attitude towards customers generally. If they get lippy with you and cross a line, don't be afraid to get assertive while remaining as courteous as possible.

As for compromising, don't do anything for them that might get you in trouble with the bosses. Customers will always demand stuff that they know they aren't entitled just to see if they can get something for nothing.

If you wash the dishes, try not to soak yourself.
You'll be exhausted by the end of the day, even once you're used to it.

Nope. I only bring dishes to the other chinese lady who sprays the dishes with a handheld shower head.

Well, that's true, but I'm not really worried because Canadians are usually only assholes as drivers.

I'll probably just ask them kindly if I need to get my boss to slice them open with a Katana :)

My boss told me to serve water, takeout containers, napkins, straws and sauce for free only. Anything else he tells me to contact him for assistance.

I put this wrong. Was rushing for first post. I've been carhopping at a sonic for a few months, I'll put down what I do know.
THE ABC'S OF THE SERVICE INDUSTRY!
Awwright. First off, be kind to other employees. Nothing huge, but if they seem legitimately in trouble, offer assistance. It pays off. It's like tipping your bartender.
For instance, at Sonic we are all "Carhops". None of us are required to do anything in specific, we all have a broad range of duties. If someone is assigned to garbage and they hate it, I'll cover for them without much asking. In return, the girls tend to set me up with free food/cover my customers and feed me tips while I do garbage.
Next, customer relations. Be REALLY friendly. Smile and make eye contact with people. Be courteous, and seem to love what your doing, but keep working all the time. This is how I've earned the best tips.
Genuinely you've got to be true to what your doing, on good terms with the people around you, and liked by the customers enough that they come just to see you.
Yeah. That's how I roll, and I'm making 130 in tips in one night at sonic (5 hour shift, about 4 bucks on average a car) in the snow. I recommend being overly kind, genuinely interested in what's going on, and as helpful as possible.

Well, from what I've heard, it all seems fine and dandy to me. Nothing too hard.
Eventually he said that I'll be wheeling dim sum around in about 2 weeks. Right now all I have to do is get a pail and bus dishes from other tables, set tables, simple shit like that.
Well, fuck, I better get to sleep so I can start work tomorrow.
