Can som1 tell what medals are?

I don't know what medals are. If som1 could tell how useless or useful they are, that would be great.

They're like achievements. They don't do anything as such but I see them having 3 purposes: to indicate how much of the game you have completed, to add extra challenges that you may not even consider doing otherwise and for bragging rights.

you know there's a where is how to section right? Anyway medals are just for bragging or to feel accomplishment when you get a lot of them.
