Quick deploy AA robots designed to minimize the usefulness of enemy "Suppression of Enemy Air Defense"-missions.

SEAD missions works by tracing the radar signals from anti-air systems, and then launching missiles towards the source, forcing the air defense to turn off their radars or lose them.

The robots are designed to move around in flat surfaces and their radar to be turned off by default. When alert level is higher, or when enemy aircrafts are expected, three radars are turned on at a time, with a fairly quick rotation between the bots.

Whenever a SEAD missions is unlikely, they can all be turned on for larger and more precise coverage.

Thank you! I'm having lots of fun with most of these studies, and hopefully I've picked up some more sensitivity towards form, edge, value, and composition along the way!

Today's studies has been a bit lazy and uphill though, I think it's because there's so much going on, I'm having a hard time getting placements of landmarks right, which in turn makes the rest of the process much more difficult ...

Both of these last two are of Thomas Kinkade. Fxscreamer suggested him a source of inspiration for them, so I looked him up and picked two I liked for studies. Most of his stuff seems highly detailed, but there's a clear use of economy in detail when I look closer.

Irene, by the Bougeureau

Missed on the form of the neck, which ruins a lot of the movement and expression

There's just so many subtleties!

Albert Bierstadt - The Shore of Turquois
1 hour

Albert Bierstadt is definitely one of my favourite painters. There's a dramatic story in every painting - in this one you can really feel the waves roll crushingly down the shore in one majestic descent!

In this painting, I think much of this comes from being able to see the wave in different stages - building up from the left, reaching the high point in the middle, crushing down rightwards, and the aftermath of the wave in the far right. This effect is made stronger by clever use of contrast. Notice that the brightest areas on the canvas is placed right next to the darkest - right at the point where the wave breaks.

The rocks on the bot-left side balances out the dark clouds in the top right, but their angles also provide directional contrast to the rest of the composition, as well as a way to lead the eye back towards the wave. The broken mast, the ship in the background and the seagull I think are there to provide a sense of scale.

Diego Velazquez Study for the Head of Apollo
1 hour

The emphasis is in the profile of the face. The attention is brought there by introducing subtle shadows to the edge of the silhouette and lightening the background. In addition, it isn't difficult to spot the use of economy in detail. How detailed is the shoulder? what about the leave-shaped things in her hair? Compared to the silhouette of the face they're very downplayed.

Missed badly on the perspective though ..

I try to do two 1-hour studies every day now, as well as at least half an hour of face gestures. I really want to pump my skills up as quickly and efficiently as possible!

But then ...

I'll see if I can get it repaired, refunded, or replaced on warranty. I wouldn't like to be set back the price of a new tablet right now...

In the mean time I can use the office for my practices I hope

Coast Scene by Frederic Edwin Church
Two hours more or less.

The tablet was bought in November 2012, so the warranty should cover it. Meanwhile I'll just do my daily studies at the office.

Church uses strong contrasts in strokes and edges here. Compare the crisp cliff to the sparkling water and to the slowly changing clouds. But even in all those three areas, there is variation. The rocks has subtle, gradual transitions as well as sharp edges describing its form. The same goes for the water and the clouds.

I missed on the details in water on the bottom right hand side by quite a bit. The general placement of the waves are there but I forgot to make use of the extreme whites, which in the original makes the waves pack a punch. I think overall I focused too much on detail and forgot to capture the values ...

+ some faces

I spoke to the company I bought the intuos5 tablet from, and they say I'm within the limited warranty.
If I'm lucky I'll have an intuos pro within two weeks from now on!

Until then, excuse the less-than-usual workload

Seems I have to settle for one master study and a bunch of gestures on the weekdays the next two weeks or so ...

If I'm lucky the tablet comes sooner than expected!
