3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsWhy even bother dressing up for weddings and funerals? You go to a wedding in to see your friends and relatives get married so why bother dressing up? And don't say it has anything to do with respect because it doesn't. You went to the wedding, there's your respect. There is a good chance you will end up partying in that tux/dress and end up getting it messed up thus getting charged extra money for it.
On to funerals... It's kinda the same as a wedding. You go there, you pay your respects, and it shouldn't matter what you wear,
Well. I never dressed up for anything. I mean I cleaned myself up right. Did the regular hygiene and all but didn't dress up. Can't help you there.

fuck
It's tradition and it's for respect, and besides you'll be meeting some unknown people as well, so you probably want to be dressed nice.
Because the bride and groom don't want you looking like you're homeless?
Because you're showing visually you give a fuck because you spent over £200 to wear uncomfortable shit.
This too will pass.

They Are called customs or traditions
" A practice followed by people of a particular group or region."
The custom is to wear something formal because that's a manner of showing respect to the ceremony.
If you want people dressed like they want on your wedding or some ceremony, that's your choice, and yeah about the partying stuff, that's how people express themselves , it's human nature.

What he said.
fuck
Because normal people dress nicely for occasions such as weddings and funerals. It's not exactly difficult to make a little bit of an effort to dress well to keep your friends and family happy. No need to moan about it.

Sorry, I forgot we were playing Monopoly.
Okay, your roll then, I think...Who's roll is it?
This too will pass.

Personally, I like wearing suits.
It makes me feel important.

I do dress right for it. I wear a nice pair of pants with a good buttoned shirt but for some reason people insist that we wear the expensive shit. Unlike most rich people in this world we still got those poor chaps who can't afford much and they are forced into buying clothes which you only wear for one day.

You can buy suits and the like for reasonably cheap these days, and they don't necessarily have to look cheap either. There's always occasions that you'll need a suit for, too... job interviews for example. Those kinds of occasions always crop up.
It's not a big deal really... I only have one suit which I bought for around £100 a few years back, and it's still perfectly fine. Sure I don't wear it very often, but it's always useful to have a suit lying around.
Ultimately there's nothing you can do to get out of certain traditions. Just have to take it on the chin and get on with it.

Yes it does.
"Oh, someone close to me died and I'll never see them again. I guess I'll go show up with all their other friends and relatives in my shitty street clothes because in my book going to a funeral for a friend or family member is no more important than going to Wal-Mart to buy a pair of shoes."
You dress up nice because it's an important social event; so you look professional and you let everyone know that you actually give a shit about what's happening.

Why should anyone give a fuck what strangers think about how they dress?
I just throw on a dress cuz my mom buys me reallllllly expensive shit and she forces me to wear 'em to those things >:(.
A vagina is really just a hat for a penis.
just apart of the culture. why do we eat burgers with our hands instead of with a fork? why do we watch TV instead of going outside more often? its just how we do things here .

Don't you mean $400, or are you french?

Show you care enough to do something nice for them. Or Respect.
You dress nice to show some respect, despite you thinking otherwise. Simply showing up in shorts and a t-shirt doesn't show you care. It says, "Hey, I didn't really care to shower and get dressed this morning, so I just came in this." Seriously, try dressing casually and see what your family/friends say.
the people are like decorations if everyone dressed like shit the wedding or funeral would look pretty bummy and not as amazing as you'd want it too
i got techniques dripping out my butt cheeks; sleep on my stomach so i don't fuck up my sheets.
It really DOES have to do with respect. Anyone can just SHOW UP somewhere. But to take the time to clean yourself up and look respectable, THAT'S where the matter of respect lies. It's not that you're disrespecting them by not dressing up, it's that you're showing a severe lack of self respect if you don't.
Anyway, we call those things "formal occasions." When you wear your formal attire. Formal attire is a suit for men in western culture.

You don't need to wear a Tux to look good, infact I think tuxedo's are ugly as dick.

Yeah, but you're a pirate, so what do you know? ;P
Plus I didn't really say anything about tuxedos... so I'm guessing you're probably on crack.

Social status, to avoid possible gossip, and many more reasons.
The same reasons you dress nicely for going out on special dinners and such.
