Spongebob is a sea sponge, it doesn't really have a physical gender. It's a hermaphrodite. However, the creator may have given it a gay personality, and he definitely put it in a lot of "gay" situations. Then again, it's a world where a crab has a whale for a daughter, we really shouldn't be reading so much of our sexual interpretations into a world where even the biological concept of species is different from ours.
