Flash CS4 is the latest version, so it has everything all the prior versions have and more. Ergo the best one to use.

Let me use this thread as an excuse to say this.

People complain that flash cs4 sucks because it lacks new features

CS4 is much better because the few features it adds exluding deco tool and bones are major improvements but the main reason its better is workflow , i would easily pay another $200 for the streamlined workspace that maximizes stage realestate and timline docking alowing for a much better animator enviornment and AS3 support is much better.

Also on that point Flash CS5 (which you should get when it comes out) is critisized even more for this , iPhone deving and Extra script libraries, decent improvements but what most people forget is its CS5 that means they update ALLL the apps in the suite so photoshop or something else will get more attention and updaing flash is just an obligation really

Sorry for the derail but i must ask you a question , why the fuck did you spend all that money if you were just going to doodle i mean how rich are you ?

Try looking for books on game programming and game design and see what your're prominent in game animation or programming , maybe you're both like me :)

No, people complain that it sucks because it crashes. A LOT.

Agreed.

Adobe CS5.

I think the main reason people tend to hate new Adobe products is the fact that they release them relatively fast. I mean, I JUST got the entire CS4 collection last Christmas, and they're planning to release CS5 in March. I was a bit angry about that, and I'm sure others were, too. They just decide to be angry at the program, rather than be happy about the productivity of Adobe.

There are some other reasons that I hate Adobe for. Programming is getting too easy with all those features, like build in physics and stuff. Though, the build-in engine is very slow.
I believe they need to fix the software before they release it, they are all like betas.
CS4 craches on windows A LOT, physics lag, shape tweens do not work properly all the time, auto format script button is totally broke for AS3.......

That's good and bad.

It's good, because it simplifies things and allows newcomers to catch on more quickly. The bad thing is that it makes experienced programmers like us mad, because we had to start at the very bottom and work all the way up. But, if you feel hurt because Adobe is making it "too easy", imagine how the people who started with AS1 felt when the shiny new AS2 was released, or when the filters were added in Flash 8.

The new features like built-in physics make things a whole lot better, and you just have to accept them.

What, you've used Flash CS5's built-in code snippets?

physics lag,

What physics lag? As far as I know there is no built in physics engine in CS4, and if the lag is when you program physics yourself, then that's something on your end. Because the box2D physics engine runs very smoothly.

No, ive seen the movies..... Takes a lot of time to render just a couple of keyframes, and the demo game is pinball, wich only has one single moving object. I assume this is because the engine cannot handle much more =D

Box2D is smooth, but unsportive. I believe that you cant say "I made this game" if you copied the entire engine from the internet. I believe the person who says i made this game has made every code and piece of art himself. I think its already a collab if you used pre-engines.

That's more of a matter of opinion. If someone doesn't want to spend months learning the appropriate physics and applying that in programming for a few features he wants in a game, then he could just use an open source engine.

If you want to go like that, I could say that any game you make with flash, you can't say "I made that game" because you flash's Actionscript. Which contains numerous functions and scripts that are pre-made to help you.

Heck, if you start programming in binary code, you're still using a computer that is premade to aid you.
