Classical artist's lounge 2009-12-09 19:44:36

This is my first thread on this forum so I dont really know how this will go.

But basicly this is a place for classical artist's to talk about they're pieces and talk about them. but if I am going to make this type of thread I guese Their needs to be rules.

1. no flaming, trolling, hating.
2. all pieces you link here must be your own. I dont care if you talk about pieces out of the audio portal.
3. any non-classical post's are NOT allowed.
4. have fun.

Check out my music if you want. :)

Hi, welcome to the Audio Forum.

It's been established that any activity and/or discussion of linking to works submitted to newgrounds should take place in the Audio Advertisements Thread. We can't have genre-specific review threads since if there was a thread for every genre, it would clog up the front page of the forum.

There was an attempt at a thread just like this for hip-hop a week or two ago, and it was locked. Just a heads up.

Don't worry about it deleting it, a mod will probably lock it or it will just float away.

I honestly think this thread has merit, but I'm not a forum mod so I can't lock it if it gets out of hand.

I agree with you nate, but we have to be fair because we locked a thread exactly like this, which was for hip hop, recently.

Well thank you both very much. And why would you thank me for not throwing a tantrum .. does that happen a lot here?

and also thank you for being fare... I honestly wouldnt want a unfair thread up either.

If I were a mod I would make sure of this.

People have fits all the time here when they are told they are breaking or have broken the rules. The most common are the people who were banned for uploading copyrighted material claiming they made it... They love to throw tantrums about how the audio portal is garbage and all that... Then they're never heard from again.... fortunately.

Exactly, and that's why I thank you OP, for being mature and not throwing a tantrum.

Ok well. I will make sure not to add any more threads without asking you.

Thanks, I hope to see you around the portals :)

You can still add threads, just as long as they adhere to the rules.
Actually, you can still have a Classical artists lounge if it's for the following purposes:

1. Discussing techniques, strategies, and tips on composing and mastering classical music.
2. Help with classical composition issues.
3. Anthing that falls along those lines

I think that would be a very great thread because it will actually free up forum space because all the threads pertaining to classial composition will just belong to this thread. I think someone like nathanallenpinard should make a complex thread like that, so it can be kept going.

I don't think it's neccessary for anyone to oppose this, because after all, we have an FL Studio Questions thread.

damnit i was hoping for another meltdown thread. >:( i would have liked to have a nice laugh.

well anyway i think a thread discussing classical compositions and methods would be very beneficial for alot of audio artists. even though someone can make awesome dnb trance ambient or anything else electronic sometimes creating a classical piece can be a chore if you dont know what your doing.

maybe let this thread die or request a lock and create a new thread with some nice thought out rules and what not :)

Or you know don't I think it would be best if classical was just another genre on the portal and didn't have any special rights over other genres. Not that there is wrong with classical I was a t one time a mean oboeist.

I would like to make some sort of orchestra like music with a string ensemble and a brass ensemble and flutes and stuff, so I was wondering if anyone knows of any good vst's for that I could use to make this. Like realistic sounding strings or brass instruments. I currently have Fl Studio 9 which I'm pretty sure isn't very good for those types of songs, so what is a program that is better suited?

See...er...honestly...

I never believed for a second that music appreciation threads in the AF would ever be JUST about appreciation. We as audio artists in this thread would turn it into a music production thread, even if we were to talk about the feelings of the music itself we end up analyzizng it and explaining techniques that make it into a production thread.

Now the OP's that start them aren't always like that, but most people (if not all) in the AF that post regularly won't continue it in such a way.

The program you use to create the music makes little to no difference, it's how you use it that matters. As for quality samples (I'm assuming you mean free), you're on your own, I have only ever used the expensive stuff.

That's good that the program doesn't matter. Expensive stuff is still an option I'd just rather not pay anything. Thanks for your help.

In that case, there are 3 I would recommend checking out, Edirol Orchestral, Miroslav Philharmonik, and EastWest Symphonic Orchestra.

I've used all but the latter, but from what I've heard of it, it's pretty good quality, but it'll also cost you a pretty penny.

most reasons against genere-based threads/lounges have been said already.

main reason from my p.o.w. is that all of a sudden there would be tons of genre-threads. i strongly doubt that these threads would be all too fruitful either. if you wish to discuss a technique, or something specific (hell, even a full genre if you can figure out a good way to keep the discussion valid) you're warmly welcome to do so.

so basically there's no need for threads like thisone.

and as most people know, various non-music related chitchat goes in the audio-forum lounge. :)

and just to add:

- the fewer "offical this and that"-type threads, the better. the ones that are in the sticky (yeah it requires an update, hopefully we can make that happend during the holidays) shouldn't have to be competing with each other for "attention". what im trying to say is "less is more" - and the fact that the whole forum is a place to discuss audio techniques etc, so it's usually alot better with a unique thread for each subject, and keep them slightly less spanning.

there are always exceptions though, of course (think: FL-specific thread, VA-threads etc.)

unless there's a shitton of similiar threads clogging the forums, there usually is no need making an "offical" gatherup-thread.
