Test 1 looks way better than test 2 and they're looking like a good start. Now, just work on refining them.

Perpetually looking for time to return to the arts.

its a good start but there is improvement needed.
practice with sticks first until you get that looking really smooth.
then move onto 'fleshing' it out.
also its abit jumpy so try to add an extra frame inbetween each one.
also depending on what type of running you want the leg comes up more and the arms go back. il bost an example soon if you want.
hope its some help.

What you want to do is put a line of reference for its feet hit like This. It's a little choppy because I slowed it down to 12 frames instead of the 24 it was made at so you could see it better, but whatever :P

Building a run is much easier if you completely plan it out first. Say you're making the whole cycle 12 frames long. You'd have the left foot and right foot contacts on the first and 7th frame, the downs on the 2nd and 8th, etc. etc.

Make sketches with ball joints before making the character on each frame. Your run isn't realistic or fluid. On the second example the leg closest to camera doesn't have enough hang time in the air, as in it is on the ground too much. None of them have a falling motion or a rise.

It looks okay. I suggest drawing it with sticks and writing what happens in evry frame so you really get planning down.
