That's why it's always a good idea to back up your files regularily.
My computer crashed in September, but before that I backed up all my files (because I knew it was coming anyways, my computers sucks that way)
Just back it up on a bunch of CD-Rs or stick it in Dropbox.

ANYWAYS I finished the song for the second round. However, there are a few mistakes I can make out and fix easily, but there's two parts in particular that sounds off and I don't know how to fix it. One sounds like there's a few instruments that shouldn't be in the part. the other sounds like it needs more to it.
I'll put it up tomorrow and anyone willing to review it please do.
Bed for me.

Gah, sorry, but our judge vacancies are all filled up :(. Still, if one of us can't judge for some reason, I'll be sure to let you know ;).

And to KirbyFemur - I won't be THAT strict :P. Seriously though, if you made any mistakes which you know about, best thing to do is fix them and update the MP3 file on NG (by EDITING it in here and not posting a newer version with a completely different link) before the deadline, so when us judges hear the song to start the judging, we'll hear the updated version and judge that.

Or get an external hard drive and treat it real good. I was doing that for a while but I dropped the external and busted it. Lucky I transferred all the files to a few different computers before fucking up the external. I also load a lot of my raw rsn files to websites. Backing up my data has become a religious project for me. Any one serious about their work needs to get in the habit of backing things up. I got a usb thumb drive now that holds up to 8 gigs. It works great for moving litter things quick from computer to computer.

Guh, if MY hard drive fails, I instantly lose all my VST's, soundfonts, samples, FLP's and songs that I'm soon to submit to NG. I really need to find the time to back them up :(.
The worst thing that happened to me was when I was working 5 hours straight on a classical rock song, and FL crashed because of my poor excuse of RAM (512 MB, *sniff*... it's ancient...). I lost all of the melodies/mixer settings/choice of samples, etc... I started all over again and the song didn't even come out half as good as how it was coming out before :\. Oh well, I need to get the habit of hitting Ctrl+S now and again...

Anyway, everyone, let's try not to get off-topic - this is a death match after all ^^.

Lol i had found that out way back. I put up a new version mainly because I wanted to give the people who had reviewed it first another chance, and i didn't want to deleted it, since they had reviews done. And i know how annoying it is to see my review count go down. I don't know how much I'll be updating it now, but if i can i'll try =3

I have a dropbox account and have all of my project files in a private folder. Hence, they are all backed up even if both my computer and my laptop get blown up in a lightning storm, AND they're accessible from anywhere. This backup occurs automatically, so its no extra work for me.

I love being a computer geek.

Just 5 hours? I spent 9 months working on an animation back in highschool. My computer crashed and I couldn't recover any of the work. That was a total fucking wreck. I'm sure there are some pretty shitty stories out there when it comes to losing data, so I try not to complain when a few hours slip away.

We can stay on topic and still have discussions, after all, this topic originated from something involving the deathmatch.
My computer is like yours, the RAM anyways. An old 512 MB Piece of shit. It takes me more than 7 hours to finish a song when it could take only 3. My hard drive is only 40GB and I think it's starting to fail on me even after backing up my stuff and completely wiping it afterwards. I need a new computer entirely.
Anyways, I'm about to post up my Round 2 song. I won't post it here because this isn't the Round 2 thread. I will have it on my sig, however.

Yeah, you should definitely be careful in situations like those. My old computer before I got the one I am using now was an XP. After about 7 years of break-neck working it finally decided to slow down. We took it down to Geek squad and they opened up the side of it to find that the mother board was charred, literally charred.

You should probably have a check up if your not going to replace it for another six months.

Alright then... maybe something like that to break the ice a little wouldn't be much of a problem.

At least I know I'm not the only one ^^.

By the way, sorry for not adding this in the first post, but we've added another prize to the grand prize of getting 63 reviews on your songs and also 9 reviews from the judges in all. The participants who make it to Round 4 (AKA 4 participants left) gets a bronze forum sig and CD Icon (possibly even a user image, but I'm pretty sure all you could be needing is the forum sig...) with their username on it, the participants who make it to Round 5 get a silver forum sig/CD Icon/user image with their username on it and the participant who wins the whole deathmatch gets a golden sig/icon/image.

Aren't we kind :3.

Oh lol, sorry, didn't know someone already had the idea of making sigs XD.

That's a pretty awesome contest, and it was quite popular - I actually ran into some of the participant's submissions before, lol, but I never got around to checking out the thread to see that my idea was already used :P. Well, since you already used sigs and stuff as a prize to your contest, and since it would sound like copying if I did it without asking, I think it's about time I ask...

*Puss in Boots Eyes* Pwease can we have your permission to make sigs for the contest?

Hopefully I'll be getting a laptop for X-mas. if not, then I might get money to buy a laptop for X-mas. If not that, then I'll get my computer checked. It's most likely that my motherboard is charred too. I've been using this computer for 3 years for music and when I first got it, it was running slowly.
It's a combination of used computer parts.
