i don't think group 2 has even started yet. Match ups aren't even chosen yet. So why not wait until it's actually time to begin?

The judges said that we could post stuff to this thread for Group 2. Check back one page, towards the bottom.

If group 2 is not yet full, I'm willing to participate.

I write ambient, glitch, and industrial, though lots of other electronic genres get shuffled in.

Is there any PM notification involved in this contest?

The didn't say anything about POSTING. They said Group 2 wasn't full yet. There is a VERY clear difference. But seriously. Why not wait until matchups are officially declared? The first round for group two hasn't even started yet.

How do we sign up?
Just post in the thread saying you'll sign up. Also, we'd appreciate if you give up to 3 genres you might be making, so that when we come to assigning the competitors, we'll try not to do two completely different genres competing with each other (E.G.: Trance Vs Classical).

Count me in on this fun little fiasco. As for three genres, everything I write pretty much fits the misc genre because most of what I write does not fit any one genre. But my music tends to have a mix of orchestral instrumentation, with a mix of glitchy electronic flavor, sometimes trending towards a video game sort of sound. I guess you could say classical, miscellaneous, and electronica. But I typically mix more than one of those genres into my songs, not so much keeping them separate.

Hopefully that helps. :-)

That'd be me, and I definitely want in. :D I do Ambient, House, and Hardstyle.

One slot is left for group two of this competition, current list is in the above post.

God bless it...three days and no word whatsoever. I'm disappointed =( I even put up a news post lol. Everyone should do this until that last person signs up.

In all seriousness though, I wanted to let you know that I have finished my first piece for this contest, and it has become a strictly classical piece. So that should help you with matching me up with an appropriate competitor, since before I was not sure what direction I would be going in.

As for if and when I might advance, I am not sure what I'll come up with next. So keep the "misc" idea as an overall idea for me. But for the first round at least I will be throwing in a classical piece.

Hope that helps ya out with matching up the competition a little bit. :-)

I think I'll second that motion. I shouldn't be goin in as N/A; it should be Metal...Although, it's more like "Chill" Metal, if ever there was such a thing. It's more like Prog Rock, heavier than General Rock. Check my above post for more details.

I have noticed a major flaw in this entire competition, and it's name is Blackhole12. I think he should be removed as a judge because his reviews of certain songs are not based on whether the songs are good themselves, but rather whether or not they are the form of music he typically listens to. If this is simply going to be a popularity contest based on making songs that the judges can say "OMG! I listen to this sort of stuff all the time...10/10!!!", then what is the point?

The reason I bring this up is his review of Pure-Metal-UTA's entry is simply abusive and a pathetic soap box stand. If you have such an issue with metal, then dn't be a stinking judge for a contest that allows metal to be a genre to submitted. His entire review consisted of "OMG THIS IS BAD!!! METAL=BAD OMG BAD BAD BAD BAD BAAAAD!!!" His review should not only be removed as abusive, but he should be removed as a judge because obviously he is voting only based on personal preference, and that really isn't being a judge.

The song itself I was not fond of, even though I love metal. But that aside, his review was not constructive in the least. And let me explain why his review is crap...

"This is a piece of crap. I'm sorry, it just is. I've heard decent heavy metal, and it usually does actually have some semblance of a melody, or at least better production. This is closer to some kind of death metal grunge kind of thing that is no longer music and has degraded into a noise contest."

Ok, so you don't like this style. Doesn't mean it is a piece of crap. To say that as a judge for a contest is a VERY douchy thing to do, I'd like to know how you would feel if the shoe were on the other foot. I bet you wouldn't appreciate someone just coming out and saying such things on something you entered into a contest, based solely on the fact it isn't a form of music that person enjoyed.

"It's kind of hard for me to criticize specific portions of the song when the entire first 3 and a half minutes are literally just insane drums and random guitar riffs with horribly done, incoherent guttural... whatever the hell you call it. I did actually hear some sort of guitar solo at about 3:30, but it was completely out of tune and sounded like the guitar was dying. Actually this entire song sounds like its dying, but that part really managed to stand out in being utterly and completely horrible."

Insane drums....That would be considered a compliment to many metal bands considering blast beats are often the norm for many bands. Also, the guitar riffs are anything but random. It is quite easy to tell the flow of the riffs if you actually stop and listen for a second. Moving onto the guitar solo, it was not out of tune at all. Which leads me to believe not only do you know nothing about music, but you have no ear for the way music is constructed either. Based on this, you should not be a judge for this competition because you know nothing of music outside your teeny tiny musical domain.

Also, you last statement about the song sounding as if it were "dying" and how "that part really managed to stand out in being utterly and completely horrible" is something a cuntface who has never heard death/black metal or grindcore before would say. There are thousands of sub genres in the world of music, and each has it's own little niche or void to fill. And if you are going to be a judge for a contest that allows anything to be submitted, then you need to have an appreciation for all of these forms of music.

I agree, the production is quite awful on this song. And that is actually a fine thing to say because it is something measurable that the artist can take and say, "Improve my recording/production techniques, check!" But your last statement has me very puzzled. I mean do you typically go swimming in giant pools of crap? I mean if you do, then please clarify by saying so, because then you would be fine in saying such a remark. But if you have indeed not ever swam through a giant pool of crap, then do not compare this song to doing such an act. Because you technically wouldn't have the slightest clue what swimming through a big pool of crap would be like.

In a previous post I noticed SuperSteph said "Blackhole12 is a very tough judge." That is good, because if everyone received 10/10 on their songs nobody would win. But the truth is he is not a touch judge, just an ignorant one. And based on that should not be judging these entries because he is judging based solely on types of music he likes, and not actually whether the song itself is created, produced. and fit together in a nice/interesting manner.

Now I do realize that since I am a contestant in this competition that this will no doubt kill my chances of winning. But to be honest I do not care. If this contest is going to end up being a popularity contest for three people to pick their favorite song based on what genre they enjoy the most, well I might as well quit now because I have no interest in getting reviews saying "I don't like this sort of music, 2/10!" And based on the review he left it is obvious that is what he is basing his "judgments" on.

Yea, reading that review really pissed me off to say the least if you couldn't already tell.

Why are you bringing this up? I mean, sure, you can tell me I'm a horrible judge and that my reviews are abusive pointless and idiotic, but I'm not a judge anymore. I was just a stand-in judge, and as I explained before, we have 3 judges so that if some people didn't like my review the scores would even out. This whole mess had been resolved and I'm no longer a judge since I'm a participant in the contest itself, so if you want to tell me I'm an ignorant dickhead, please do so in a PM, and I will gladly explain myself to you.

Bottom-line: I'm not a judge anymore.
