The Ng Audio Death Match! Dec. 8th, 2009 @ 10:06 AM Reply

Greetings NG! Welcome to the Audio Death Match! This is a huge competition organised by Darklight17 and Supersteph54 which is basically a knockout competition between all participants.

So, what exactly will we be doing?
Simple. This competition is a knockout competition, so the concept is to survive through to the finals where you battle it off with your competitor to be announced winner of this competition. Here is an example of a knockout competition: clicky.

How do we sign up?
Just post in the thread saying you'll sign up. Also, we'd appreciate if you give up to 3 genres you might be making, so that when we come to assigning the competitors, we'll try not to do two completely different genres competing with each other (E.G.: Trance Vs Classical).

Alright then, when's the sign up deadline?
Whenever the competition reaches 32 participants (or 64 if it becomes really popular).

Awesome, no rules!
Heh, you wish.
1) Thy shalt have fun...
2) Thy shalt not issue forth offence to thy competitor.
3) Thy shalt submit musical pieces of any genre except Voice Acting.
4) Thy shalt have 2 weeks to make your music for every round.*
5) Thus forth, the rounds shalt be judged upon by the three judges preceding over this mortal combat: Supersteph54, Darklight17, aliaspharow.
6) Thy shalt not remix, collab or break yonder Newgrounds Rules, and thy song must be createth by THOU and THOU only (not thy friend friend, thy cousin and/or thy dog).
7) Thy shalt fight to the death...

*Note that every round must use a completely different song (you may use the same instruments you used in your previous song, and you may also use the same genre, but you may not use the same track you used before or remix your previous track). This is to make the authors become accustomed to being pressed for time. Also, the final round has a time limit of three weeks, not two.

Easy enough. What do I do after I finish my song?
Submit it to the Audio Portal and post a link to it in the thread. After the sign up deadline finishes, we'll post all the deadlines for every round.

Any genre I want?
Yes, except Voice Acting.

How will the songs be judged?
There will be three judges - Me, Darklight17 and aliaspharow. At the end of every 2-week period, we will hear all of the songs, and each one of us will give a score for every song saying why we gave that score. At the end, all of the judges' scores will be counted up to make a score out of 30, and the songs which have a better score than the ones they were up against continue to the next round. The judges will not judge the songs according to personal preference, for example, one of our judges won't give a lower score on a Rock song just because he prefers Trance.

What if I make and submit the song, posting the link, but want to change it?
Just make sure you edit your submission by going to your audio editing page before the 2-week deadline. Do not post a V2 and say 'Never mind; judge this one!'.

Prize pls.
The prize is quite an evil one. Every participant except the winner must review 1 of the winner's songs. They are allowed to give low scores as long as they say why and don't say 'you beat me in the competition and so you deserve a low score'. The winner will also get 3 reviews by aliaspharow, Darklight17 and I on three songs of his/her choice. These reviews will NOT be short, and will be giving honest, constructive and helpful advice (which is why you'd probably want to ask us to review your WiP's and not your best songs).

Am I allowed to spread the word?
Not only allowed, but encouraged.

Awesome. Make me win the competition. kthxbai.
No.

So what are you waiting for? Sign up: the vacancies are limited!

Submit it to the Audio Portal and post a link to it in the thread. After the sign up deadline finishes, we'll post all the deadlines for every round."

Also, may I add to the rules that you can't submit songs you already made. They must all be new and made specifically for the contest ;).

I can only do acapella. I have no idea how to use most audio programs, but would music generated with my own voice work?

Kinda like this:

Yeah, but if you do please post so we can make the necessary adjustments to the random generator program ^^.

Ahh, tough luck man :(. Although your acapella tracks are darn awesome, voice acting isn't allowed, and acapella is a sub-genre of it :(. Maybe you can try and download the FL Demo and learn some quick basics of it. It will almost surely not get you to winning the competition since you would've only just started, but it'll still be a nice experience :D. Here are some tutorials and stuff to help you out if you use FL Studio:

http://www.flstudio-tutorials.com/tutori als.php - great tutorial for beginners.

http://flstudio.image-line.com/help/ - the official manual for FL Studio. Not good for beginners, but good if you want to look for something specific.

http://nucleocide.net/tutorials-fl_studi o-fl_studio_mixer.htm - a brief but useful definition of FL Studio's mixer and its capabilities.

http://blackhole12.deviantart.com/art/Sy trus-Synth-Creation-Part-1-75704794 - An in depth, easy to comprehend, 7 part tutorial by Blackhole12 on how to make synths with FL Studio's Sytrus plugin.

http://www.blackspherestudios.com/submis sion.php5?id=359 - An intermediate guide on how to use FL Studio's Parametric EQ and FL Spectroman by Blackhole12 as well :P

Plus, you can get more audio help over here and there's a thread for posting questions about FL Studio.

I hope that will help you a little, and good luck! :).

I'm in - althought I think you should modify the prize - instead of the loser has to review one of the winer's songs - I think you should make it where the loser has to review ALL the user's songs >:)

as for my genre- it's whatever the hell I want it to be after I finish the song - I am not very genre-specific - I make a song and peg a genre to it after :)

now lets see some quality musicians join up :P

I think the NG staff members would get a little worried if they heard about a mass reviewer suicide caused by massive amounts up blunt force trauma caused by listening to to much music and having to constructively criticize every piece of music he/she's made. lol

nonsense.

If SBB was able to do it then other people can too - It might take you a few weeks but think of it as a challenge! :P

Will there be any time limit on songs?

I reckon a good prize if anyone could get round to doing it in the future, would be for the winner to get some pimped account where they can upload higher bit rates, or bigger size songs or something.
