Gta-stlye Open 'sandbox' Game? 2009-12-04 14:25:15 Reply

Has anyone done a game which is just a big, really built up, open world game where you can just roam around and do whatever you want like in the Grand Theft Auto Series? Obviously bird-eyes view for flash, 3d'll be too difficult lol

I imagine it wouldn't be too complicated to make for really experienced programmers. All Levels are in the one open ended world, standard inventory system, I've even seen in a tutorial that theres an actionscipt for getting in and out of a car. and just to be clear I'm not asking someone to 'make this game for me', I'm just suggesting if its not there already.

Sorry if I've rambled on or sounded naive, its just this has come to mind cause GTA4 is a masterpiece of a game, massive world and really detailed. and theres equally amazing games here on newgrounds. I can't get enough of open-ended 'sandbox' games, theres so much freedom you can play for hours lol.

This for example. Haven't completed the newest version, but it's quite good and you can choose to roam around and explore while killing enemies and earning exp or do quests. Kind of fits what you're looking for, but as you said, Flash can be limited.

And, besides, an RPG is different from a sandbox game. Sandbox games don't necessarily have to have EXP, stats, or health, for that matter. Minecraft is a sandbox game.

You clearly know little about programming.

This sort of game is actually very difficult to make, since you have to program lots and lots of flags and detail for it to be at all worth playing, and some of this has to be quite complicated to make it fun.

Also, try the Flash Forum.

Let me make this clear, I'm asking about something akin to the GTA dynamics. A game where an open world is ur playground

Its not a RPG game I'm talking about. Its a game with a complete open-world enviroment where you do what you like. I mean if there was a 'Parkour' game, it wouldn't be an RPG

Thanks but I'm asking if someone has made a Flash Game.

Well yeah I don't know much about programming and I'm not gonna hide that fact. Thank you for making it clear that it would actually be quite complicated to make.
And flash forum might be better, I posted in general cause its 'general talk about stuff on newgrounds'. Can I repost or can a moderater move the thread?

Yeah, I think it's called Grand Theft Auto IV.

But seriously, if you're looking for a game that literally doesn't give a fuck what you do, even kill the main characters, then I recommend Fallout 3 or Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

You can literally do WHATEVER THE FUCK YOU WANT without any dumb story line nagging at you to do the next mission.

Personally, I prefer Fallout 3 cause I'm a Sci-Fi head, but if you're looking for something World-of-Warcraft-ish, go with Elder Scrolls.

Yep.

Don't be STOOPID!

Moderators have no power to edit content in any way other than deletion.

Reposting in the Flash Forum and requesting a lock of this topic is probably your best option.

Sorry I do mean just flash, but I've heard that about Saints Row 2 and I'm gonna check it out :)

Yeah sorry everyone, think I've caused some confusion lol. I was asking if anyone has made a flash game here on newgrounds.
