Mp3 player memory problem 2009-11-30 05:23:27 Reply

So, i bought this shoddy mp3 player a while back, and it's kinda complicated. Moving files onto it will cancel some files from working and i get "format error" and i have to delete all the files on it before i put anything else on. But now it's really starting to piss me off. It is supposed to have a 4gigabyte memory, but I only have 1.24 gigabytes of free space. How the hell do i change this?

You are aware that this is an audio production forum, not an ipod (Or whatever type of MP3 player you're complaining about) tech support forum, correct?

yeah, i'm fully aware but i thought since mp3 player plays audio files...meh.
I just really needed help for this quickly.
I think this bbs should also make a tech forum.

Well even though this isn't too appropriate for this forum I'll still give you my 2 cents.
Since it says 'format error', you might as well try formatting the device. to do this (assuming you're using Microsoft Windows), just go to 'My computer' (or just 'Computer'), Right click your device and click "Format..."

Normally you can then format the thing and everything wilk work normal. Be sure to back up any files that are on it first, as everything will be erased.

Sounds like you've been ripped off. If it's a cheap, generic chinese no-name mp3 player, what could have happened is they fooled the chips into the device to say they have a larger capacity than it actually does, so they can sell a 1gb mp3 player as a 4gb one. It will show up as having the space, but trying to write files beyond its actual capacity will cause those files to be 'corrupted' (written to the index of the device but not actually to the storage space), or may even fuck up the devices formatting all together.

Send it back, get a real mp3 player.

I currently own a cheap knockoff, "no-name" mp3 player, that said 2 GB. I thought, "well, I'll update every week". Turns out it's a 8 GB player, and it works great.

Really unnecessary comment.

As to your MP3 player, I agree with Khuskan. It's most likely unable to write anything more.
