3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsI'm trying to figure out what is more important. RAM speed or CPU speed. My old computer had 1GB Ram but a 3.5GHZ processor and ran games damn good. However, I'm looking at new computers now with 4-6GB Ram and 2.7GHZ processors. When I'm looking for a computer to run games really good I know the games now need 1-2GB of ram, and obviously these computers meet that. So do i want to have a high processor or will 2.6-2.9 due?

For gaming, the most important thing is a modern graphics card. If you have one you should be OK.
For RAM, 2 to 4GB will be plenty, and the CPU should probably be 1.5Ghz+ and Dual-Core.

Not exactly, but it will still be way faster than your old PC.
Although, you don't need more than 6gb of ram for anything. Just get 4gb at 1066mhz FSB, and it will max out any game with a proper graphics card.
Silly, silly person. A 2.7Ghz dual core is NOT like a 5.4Ghz single core. It just means you can process two process threads at the same time, one per core, at a speed of 2.7Ghz
Also, RAM speed is not that important, I believe. However, a 32-bit PC (most common kind) can only handle 4Gb maximum, though it will only use around 3.5Gb. A 64-bit PC (less common) can use more than 4Gb RAM, but unless you are regularly doing RAM intensive things like video editing, etc, you won't need more than 2-3Gb at most.

I see the same computer same hard drive and same memory at a different store for 30 dollars more except it has a AMD Athlon II Quad core processor.

I have a 3.5GHZ single core, a 7600gt and I forget how much ram I have >.>, but I can run HL2 at 30 frames max settings at 1280x768. So as long as you have something similar to what I have you should be okay for most games in the 2005-2006 era. But it really depends on what you have in mind playing. (CODMW2, Mirrors Edge etc,)
