Criminal! It didn't win any awards and never made front page or got put in a collection... And it's just got GEM written all over it.
Tugoro isn't a well-known artist either, although surprisingly I had showcased one of his other movies in a things you missed post this past February.
The finder of the gem and winner of $200 is TURDO.
SO where were we?

Yay, I voted for that gem! Congratulations to Tuguro as well! I'm too sick to be bothered with games right now, so I'll let the rest of you do that.
Visiting Newgrounds Since 2003
Yay Wacoms :D
I should probably deserve one before lusting after one though.
Stop looking
Woohoo! Congrats to Criminal and hooray for Wacoms!
But Tom, what about Thanksgiving? How could we not have a huge collection to celebrate turkey day? I think I would be a shoe in to win =p

Hello.
I am cast, I have a suggestion.
I think it would way more fair if you split the 200 dollar prize between artist and gem finder. (Thats 100 bucks per person, or store credit) I don't see why the creators of these gems shouldn't receive a little something for their work, they did create it, and if it was never created there would be no treasure to hunt in the first place. *cough* You know, I could add more but I'll end up being an asshole so I'll just stop. Love you.
Ok. Mhmm.
Alrighty.
bye bye.
Yes.
Talk to you later.
Bye Tom.
BTW
I feel the winning movie is 100% deserving, I just feel the finder is only 50% deserving.
darn, you should give away flash-licenses instead of tablets, i sure as hell would apply with my tounge covered in sweet and smooth goo for Your pleasure if that'd be the case... :3
if not, it could be a fun way to catch users who submit flashes without having a proper license. BWAHAHAHA.
i made my only submission at school, so IN YOUR FACE, PERSON WHO WAS TRYING TO TURN MY WORDS AGAINST ME :P
Join the Newgrounds Battlefield 3 Platoon (for PC)! DON'T ASK WHAT YOUR GAME CAN DO FOR YOU, ASK WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR, UH, NEWGROUNDS! ON BATTLEFIELD 3. eh...

I always worried about Macromedia/Adobe somehow coming in demanding all artists of content show a unique valid license.
Cringe

It's my favorite contest all year!
I always find it surprising that one of those most well known brands for artwork and animation centres all it's promotional blurbs around hand writing and photos. Ffffff.

This comes up every year and I do always consider doing a prize for the gem itself... But the reason why we emphasize a prize for the gem finder is because we want to motivate as many people as possible to dig into the site and find stuff. So the user gets rewarded for finding something we missed, and the thing we missed gets rewarded with the exposure it never got the first time around.
TURDO MY DARLING! congrats on 200 bux d00d.
I liked that moss game and congratulations to the winner!

It would be awesome if Adobe would partner with us to give out copies... FLASH IS EXPENSIVE!
On that note, it would also be nice if Wacom partnered with us to give out tablets... I should try to accomplish both of those things in 2010.
Wow, Chocolate Easter Bunny is easily far better

WOW. I was thinking the exact same thing!
Criminal.
I would like to take a moment to thank Rigormort1s for his voice. This movie would be nothing without it. He also helped me out with the movie's storyline itself. But I'm sure he doesn't care if I recognize him or not. He's probably playing modern warfare 2 right now :p. Btw, Mr. Killer lives and the clerk dies. FUCKING LOL
Criminal.

Keep in mind everyone wants Cintiqs, CINTIQS!
Lol, wtf? The artist who made the winning movie Criminal! doesn't win anythin, but the person who suggested it gets $200? Uhhhh that makes no sense....
I'm actually really confused with the Gem Winner for movies. I thought that the pool of contestants was actually quite competitive in multiple categories, and I was pleased with that selection- but having "Criminal!" win the overall contest, well, that just absolutely came as a shock.
I hadn't watched it when it was nominated, so I played it today expecting something really quirky and unusual, seeing as how there were so many good entries this year. So I'm watching it, and it's nothing special, but I think to myself, "just wait, it'll probably pick up unexpectedly and get good, be patient", but nothing ever came. Frankly, it was a let down.
How does "Criminal!" win when pitted against these entries:

These are only a handful of good submissions, and there are many more I didn't mention. Just about all of the ones I mentioned are easily better than "Criminal!", and a lot of the ones I didn't mention are also better.
I'm looking at "Criminal!", and I am baffled. The animation wasn't very good. It could have been worse, yeah, but it could have been MUCH better as well. I understand that it may work well with stick figures, but even then, those stick figures could have been FAR more dynamic. The humor was virtually non-existent. I smirked once at the beginning, but the rest was just boring to watch. The jokes just seemed totally impotent and nothing of note. The voice acting wasn't good, either. Not just the sound quality, but also the actual voice acting.
I'm watching this, and I'm not seeing many redeeming qualities. I'd score it at about a 2.50 or so. I certainly wouldn't want to watch it more than once, considering the fact that I didn't want to even have to finish the whole thing the first time. It sort of fell into the whole "low-production, weird style, absurd situation" classification, but there were other entrants that were of similar nature to "Criminal!" that were much better.
The only reasoning I can imagine behind making this the winner of the undiscovered gem competition is that it won based on its sheer obscurity. It certainly qualifies as undiscovered and overlooked, certainly- but I would NOT call it a GEM.
I'm not mad about this, since I neither gain nor lose anything no matter what flash is named the winner. I'm just absolutely clueless as to why this won, and I'm feeling frustrated because I feel like other submissions are getting shafted and one submission is getting attention I just can't bring myself to believe it deserves.
