You see, a lot of people care about sending high school senior to college. Quite frankly, it's gotten to a point where I've lost all care in going there. I'll admit, I'm not much of a social person, hence why I have a slight dread of heading off. But the point is, is getting a higher education really all that's cracked up to be? Personally, I don't think it does, since everyone changes. Hell, I might even change my mind. More to the point, what do you think about going to college?

It beats high school by far...
and i mean far...
It all depends on what you want to be when you grow up.
Unfortunately, being a cyborg requires a bachelor's degree, so I have no choice.
Go to military.
Get college paid for.
Get benefits.
Life solved.
Okay... That'll be two big macs with fries.

you will probably turn out to be a dirty bum begging for change now. YOU MUST GO TO COLLEGE.
Sadly its a stigma thing, in all honesty few people actually NEED college for the educational purpose, little of what you learn you will apply in whatever job you ultimately end up in. HOWEVER if you don't go its very difficult to get certain jobs where you can actually make a living because regardless of your skills they want to see if you a college degree, it shows dedication more than anything else.

Yeah. It's illegal to hire someone without a college degree. Yeah, it's impossible to keep your dignity or happiness in poverty.

You can still do well for yourself without a degree. It's more difficult, but it can be done.
I didn't care about university really until I had a gap year and discovered first-hand what working life would be like without higher education. It's not really all that nice to be honest; to me it seemed more reasonable to spend a few more years going to uni and getting a decent education, and after that a good job.
It's all personal choice though. In the end deciding going to uni was the best choice I've made in my life so far, I reckon.
I hated college so dropped out of it, got some AS so thats better than nothing. People say you need university diplomas or you dont get a job etc, but frankly theres enough lower ranking jobs for people who dont even have any education, passing out from college after school sets you off pretty good.

Honestly I'm in my 3rd year of University and it sucks so much. Actually I should be writing a Criminology paper right this moment. Point is the job market expands as you heighten your education. Sometimes an employer won't even look at your marks or program; it's just good to know you stuck through it and have the skills these institutions give us.
Also, every single person that I've chatted with who didn't go forth to post-secondary education has told me that not going was not worth it. I've heard it from bus drivers, store managers and all the like. Try it, hate it, finish it and then never think of it again.
If you're chosen career doesn't require a college certificate, there's really no need for it.
It can be fun if the classes interest you and the social part can be fun too.
Doesn't matter what you do after high school, so long as it makes you happy.

Quit being a pussy and go. I have two jobs I'm still in highdchool and I'm In an advanced program that sends me to college as well. College is a necessity for a decent job. Get two shitty jobs that both pay minimum wage and payment your own insurance and phone bill. That will motivate you...
I had similair feelings about university. Looking back, I have no regrets. Now I am at a point in my life where I have been thinking about going to a university that I've been told about. It would involve moving so I aren't going to do it tomorrow, but I'm glad I waited until when I was ready.
College isn't too bad really. A lot of people think it's like high-school on steroids, but in reality, depends on how you do it, you'd be spending much less time in class than you'd think.
Do you have a plan for you future? Not every path in life requires going to college, but it kind of sounds like you're not interested in college just to be the one guy who doesn't want to go. I'd suggest going to community college for a semester or two if you're not entirely sure higher education is for you and you don't have any long-term goals set out. It's easier to have that foot in the door and then decide that you really don't want to continue than it is to stop your education and then start it up again. Plus, it will give you some time to get a little perspective on where you want to go in life.
Happy with what you have to be happy with
you have to be happy with what you have
to be happy with you have to be happy with what you have
I feel the OP. Fuck college if you have a plan, and you're determined to do something. There's so much unrelated bullshit in the associates and bachelor programs in college that doesn't help at all but waste time.

You know, I've had my doubts about college also. I wonder the point of school in general, to be honest. The only thing I have to look forward to in college is the possibility that I will be able to take classes that pertain more to the interests that I have. Right now I'm stuck in classes that I have to have credits for in order to graduate... none of them having to do with what I want to go into for work. I'm better at English and foreign languages, yet I'm forced to take classes that I'm not only not interested, but I also rather suck at. So it kills my GPA and makes it harder for me to go to a college that I want. For me, at least, and I don't know if I'm alone in this, it's like an endless cycle of stress, and all to just go to some bloated university where I pay a shitload of money (enough to rent out an apartment for a really long time) to have some bloated, ego-centric Professor tell me the advanced ways to do things. I realize it's a necessity and I will go, but I still wonder the point of it.

I loved college, I wish I was still there, but I can see how it can be tiring. I think it's more about personal choice than anything to whether anybody should or shouldn't go to college. You go to college to earn a skill and to apply that skill; some people don't need to and get off just fine.

ok, dont go to college go get a damn job as a janitor or something. If you dont want to do that, then Go to Iraq and get blown up by a car bomb.
Why go to college anyway? You're just wasting your life on getting money that's just going to be lost after you die anyway... dumb fuck humans.
Dude, wtf. You said you'd come to my college and at least give it a try,

College is worth it depending on what you want to do in life. Many of the adults I have known growing up went to college and graduate school (law/medical) and they all say it was worth it due to the better jobs, more freedom in choosing when and how to work, and for the personal development they received from the experience, even if 25% of the classes they took had nothing to do with what their current careers.
I also know many adults who never went to college, and are extremely smart when it comes to life and have great lives. It all depends on your life plan I guess, but that is where the choice is made.
Having a life plan, even a rough one, is essential in deciding where, if, and when one is going to college. The thing is, many don't know, or even can't know, about their so-called plan without getting their foot in the door. Someone above stated going to a community college for a year or two to see what the big deal is, and I think that is the best choice for someone who isn't quite sure of themselves yet.
On a personal note, I'm currently in my first semester of college and I have VERY mixed feelings on it. The workload is intense and am getting the worse grades I have ever received in my life. I wake up depressed some days knowing that I have 20 hours of work to do in only one day, and that even if I somehow complete it all I will still be behind somehow, someway.
But at the same time, some of the things I'm learning about greatly interest me. I am probably getting a C in my Intro to C++ class, which provides me with the bulk of my stress, but I love it because it is what I want to do as a career.
I also have opportunities that I never would have gotten if I had never come to college, and probably will never get again. I get to work in a very prestigious museum working with some of the brightest minds in paleontology studying mammoth and mastodon fossils, including TOUCHING actual fossils. It's a nerdy orgasm for me.
Plus the social experiences and personal development are worth the depression and hard work.
So really...it's a trade-off. The key is having an idea of what you want to do in life before you make any rash or important decisions.
Though it does suck when the most winningnest college football teams has another shitty season....and you bought season tickets.... >:(

I was. Then I got paranoid just recently. As of right now, I'm still going, just having one of those "there's too much pressure going on, I dunno if I should even go" issues.

At least come visit the campus. I'll show you around and show you how easy going it is.

I took running start partly just to get out of high school. I'm not much of a social person either, and college is a lot more fun than high school. The atmosphere is more relaxed. There's none of that stupid social drama. And the classes are a lot more interesting. I haven't even been there for a quarter yet, but I already know that I'm sure not going back to high school.
It's much more worth it to go to college than not to go to college, but there are important things you must factor into the worth of going to college:
First of all, you should be able to find something in life that you would love to do. If you work a job you love, then you will never have to work a day in your life...
Second, you had better study in an area that is needed by society. Why go to school if you can't find a job afterward? You'd might as well not study at all, in that case. I know some people (music majors, especially) who are starving artists working at Home Depot. Don't be that person. Hell, if you can't find something you love, find something you can stand. Even if you have to slave away at something you absolutely hate, but can make substantial amounts of money doing, then eventually you could make enough that you would never have to do it again. Think of it that way.
Third, you need money to go to college. Getting loans all throughout college may be your eventual downfall if you have exceedingly overwhelming debt to pay off. You may even spend the majority of your post-college years paying off the loan+interest if you don't have a well-enough paying job!
In my opinion, it is getting increasingly harder to get ahead without at least a basic higher education. As time goes on, society is attaching itself to the worth of that coveted piece of paper that makes you an asset over other job applicants.
I guess the real question is, would you rather break your back to make your earnings, or would you rather train your mind so that you can make your earnings just being yourself?
