Run a poll asking if people would pay just $1.00 a month to test this theory...

Anyway lets just take the figure of 100,000 hits a day that you stated. I am sure your user base is larger than that but lets take that figure anyway. If 20% of them signed up to pay $1.00 that is $20,000. Where I think most people screw up on the internet is they get greedy. If they cant buy a lexus every month then they havent succeded. Thats bullshit. If all you did was run a site that would be pretty sweet I think. So how much do you need. When you get that figure run a poll and see if that many people are willing to shell out 1 fucking buck. I say if people cant afford 1 goddamn dollar to support this site then they don't deserve to look at it. Even as I say that watch me get slamed. "I am not paying for Newgrounds! It's my right as an American to recieve others hard work for free you greedy basterds!" or "Charge for Newgrounds! but where will I go to Vote 5 for Brittney Porn!"

Ok I am done ranting and my blood pressure has gone down...

I wholly agree with your views on the Internet. Lately I've read that link-ads elicit more revenue than banners -- forget pop-ups -- that banners can be a deterrence to potential visitors. But of course itsy-bitsy links would be ignored on a rightfully loaded site like Newgrounds. Some of the adverts I've seen were, yes, pretty dumb, and some ironic when compared to the content on Newgrounds (ie, a couple months ago I took a screenshot of a pretty paradoxical scene: An anti-substance abuse banner with the "What's your anti-drug" motto, and below was the Flash flick "Legalize It" from the Drug Features, and a review saying, "We all like dope... we like to smoke, toke, 'n' float, hehehehe."). And I think I'm speaking on behalf of Newgrounds in saying that the Breast Implants 101 advert, let alone those new let's-see-how-hard-we-can-make-it-to-close pop-ups, are getting on my nerves to the tenth power. I'm again going to have to go with the majority and suggest either opting for a commercial or holding out until a sponsorship plops onto your doormat.

Oh, and, Wade, congratulations. Hopefully your wedlock will defy the anagrams ("The cards never lie, m'child!"): Marriage > Grim Era / Mother-in-law > Woman Hitler

G'luck!

<h>Blame is the cure! I want a man who can give me a genius baby!

I like the pop up ads!

Do whatever you need to do to keep a site going. If people were smart they would download "POW!" and leave it at that.

Expect things to really pick up in about two weeks, when we will be around much more than we have been for the past month. I will probably need a few days to go through all the emails complaining about the pop-up ads, though.

We have disabled the auto-refreshing ads, so you will no longer get pop-ups while playing games. The ads will still refresh whenever you click a link, so you can still expect a lot of pop-ups. We don't control this aspect of the ad rotation, but are looking into it. I'm sure it is due to the fact that ads aren't paying well and we need to make up for it with quantity, but I'm sick of it and it has to stop.

Having a VISA pop-up ad every time you go to a new page is not going to sell any more Visa cards, and I'm sure it is paying on a CPA basis (meaning we don't even get paid unless YOU sign up). This idea that "running the ad 1000 times per visitor will generate more revenue" is bullshit and is the reason why the web has failed as a marketing platform.

Yes everyone, we are all fucked and the internet is a big shithole.

I will try to get the pop-ups cut back today, so you won't have to swim through them to use the site. In the meantime, try to support us some by supporting our stupid sponsors! Remember that giant Casino ad that was on the frontpage for a few weeks? They had a really complicated three-step process that had to be completed for us to get our comission. You had to not only sign up and validate your account, but you ALSO had to desposit $50 in your Casino account. So even if we sent them 1000s of registered users, it still hinged upon that $50. Guess what? It generated ZERO "complete" sign-ups . Nada, zip. We didn't get a dime for having that obnoxious ad plastered on the frontpage for all that time. Can you understand why I am in such a pissy mood?

This is so fucking lame... Studies are proving that banner ads actually do increase brand awareness, and we are still getting ass-raped every which way. Why can't a decent company step forward and sponsor Newgrounds? For the cost of one television commercial per month we could ditch all the other advertisers and keep the site running fine. Is anyone willing to step up and do that? Does anyone out there work for "cool" companies, like KMX or RED BULL energy drinks? SOBE Beverages was interested in a sponsorship a while back, but they were bought by COKE and suddenly that wasn't a good idea for them. Well guess what, COKE better learn where its market is - it is right here on the web!

Other studies are proving that TV use is declining in exchange for internet use. Don't companies see any value in that? The average user spends over 20 minutes on Newgrounds, and we get over 100,000 users every day. We are more popular than some TV shows, but we are still getting shit on.

Here is a homework assignmnent. If you work for a company that has ANY INTEREST AT ALL in the Gen-Y / Gen-X market, talk to your friends in the marketing department about Newgrounds. Tell them how for just a small piece of their advertising budget, they could be the sole sponsor of this site. Convince them, because they have their heads up their asses and they aren't listening! Newgrounds is a lifestyle for some people - you can't say that about FRIENDS and the other crap they are putting on TV! Ok, maybe Simpsons, but that's it!

I guess that's the end of this rant.

Advertizing: just another industry ruled by phycopaths.

"Yes everyone, we are all fucked and the internet is a big shithole."

Nice quote. I agree for now. It has been diseased by advertising and the market has flooded and then drained the internet dry!

Congrats WADE! You have to put her on the webcam with you! I want to see, sloth wants to see!

That is a great idea to place an ad on TV. Internet market is probably as big as the TV market, equally now.

Maybe take your business to where the market is, if the market won't come to you. Rainbow Animations, haven't earned a dime!! Sloth TV, so beautiful. Can't take it to Atom Films, not 100% mine, with the Sloth sounds. Shockwave.com won't take it either. I'm thinking of moving into the directing/movie business, if this internet gig is like this. College, here I come, again.

Try partnering up with the big guys, since Newgrounds is a big guy. Shockwave.com should be interested, so should atomfilms.com! A great place for a small ad would be on Sci Fi on Exposure. Exposure exposes new talent for movies/animations.

Yay! Someone noticed me :D
Erhem, I read all the posts and here's my best idea, I think: Have an "(Quarter, Semi)Annual Newgrounds (web-a-thon) Fundraiser." I'll explain the parts correspondingly: have a (quarter or semiannual)
Fundraiser that could have a Web-a-thon(kinda like an internet radio station only with the best flash cartoons). Please, someone ask Tom about this!

Oh, and by the way, in light of recent events, I'm making an "A D K I L L E R" game in flash and if someone good wants to help, just e-mail me! And remember, THIS WAS MY FUCKING IDEA, SO DON'T FUCKING STEAL IT AND SAY YOU WERE ALREADY FUCKING MAKING IT!FUCK!

Ok, now that that's out of the way, umm....oh, nothing else to say, except: tell me what you think Tom or anyone else, I'm more than glad for the attention! :)

Holy shit, someone else from Aberdeen. I'm in shock.

Anyway my reason for posting was that two peeps said previously that NG doesn't look professional. No? What does a site have to look like to be professional? yahoo? How many other sites have an automated portal that gives users the ability to vote, review, delete and upload? one? two? and lets face it, the NG rip-offs are shit. Everyone who had a portal submition got an email from Comedy Central.com a few months ago. If they didn't think that NG was a proffesional site I'm sure they wouldn't have wasted their time writing a bot to scan the portal. The simple fact of the matter is that companies like Comady Central know that NG is a great site, but until now had no idea that they could "get in on it" as it were.

As a future marketing major, I'll give you the best advice I can. In looking for a sponsor, look for something that appeals to your specific users- that's a majorly important marketing dynamic. Do you think (company or product name here)'s users would be interested in signing up for Newgrounds? It has to be a two way street. Anotherwords, Tom, look at it like this- people who want to be amused by video game satires and hilarious celebrity killing schemes don't necessarily want to apply for a visa card or join a casino. They probably don't have 50 dollars to sign up for an online casino. I'm sure you already knew all this, but I thought I'd throw in my two cents. If you care to discuss this further(lol) you can IM me- my screen name is sakurablossomso3

No, thats not all I have to say, but I need a min or two to contomplate something that wouldn't be able to fuel a BBS fued like my last postings...sigh.
Congrats, Waders.
What about you Tom,eh? Nuge, nuge, wink, wink, aye what??
Damnit, 12 more of the little buggers just shot onto my screen. Grr.
Yeah...maybe Pepsi could support NG. Knot. Jato. Must remember his contribution. But Coke...why didnt like that idea. Odd. Ah well, NG'll live on, even if we have to throw our own cash at it, hell, I'd do it, I've been with NG for like 5-6 years. Just havent signed up for a GGA...I wonder why. Fear not, Tom and Wade, Sherbert and Ross, its just one of NG's tarpits, weve had em before. Ciao.

Popup's are a bitch, but I totally understand your need for revenue. I've told EVERYONE I know about Newgrounds, but I doubt 5 people can generate the money you'll need to keep the site running :p

Bu-ut if we all do our part, it can only help, right?
