i guy sent me a PM asking me to recreate a rap song for him note by note (but w/o the vocals) so that he could do an english version of it, i belive it was russian, he was just going to do a raw translation for his "cover"
but im pretty sure this chick is like singed to a record and stuff, so i was just wondering if i could get into any sort of trouble if i were to make this track for him, for whatever copyright reasons
i would not be submitting it to NG
mabye a nub question, but i dont know
any help on this matter would be appreciated

SO, let me get this straight: You're recreating the beat to rid the vocals so someone can rap over them? If you copy the beat verbatim then there's case in a court of law to be considered plagury

False.
Ultimately it depends on how it gets used. If the guy who uses the recreated instrumental releases that track for sale, he'd need to obtain a mechanical license. If it's just for funsies, then it doesn't really matter at all.
The fact that the original is in russian (or whatever it actually is) leads me to believe it was not released in the us. Which means things get -really- tricky.
In the end, so long as -you- don't release your track for sale, you are probably fairly safe. Whatever the guy does with it will probably fall on him.
That said, I am not a lawyer. Don't take advice from random strangers without a grain of salt.

Ok... now this smells fishy... Sessile... Was it mt09 that contacted you? Did he want you to recreate a song by a band/chick called Sophijah? Song is Du är det finaste jag vet...
Cause I got the same request, from the same guy, only difference is, I'm done making the beat... He knows I was working on it, why would he go around asking other people to do it as well?

This is pretty sketchy. I'd go and ask InGenius. He knows quite a bit about the laws involving music and he's saved me from a ban involving copyright on this site. He's one of those go-to guys that knows a little bit of everything.

Don't do it... I finished the song, and in light of this post, decided to ask the guy about his intentions with the song... He plans to rename it and put his own vocals on top then proceed to put it on the radio.
He's a textbook music thief.
