Alright, so I got a review before on my Heroes March Song saying that it sounded like something from Halo.

And I didn't really pay it any mind before since I figured it's a standard orchestral loop using the "dance chords", that it'd probably sound like a lot of things. And then I get an angry PM from someone saying that I stole it. Of course, I went off to do research. And I find this...

This sounds like a cut up version of my song, almost precisely. Can anyone confirm for me whether or not this is really part of the Halo Reach soundtrack? And if it is... how I can go about contacting Bungie?

Have you tried pm'ing the guy who uploaded that video?
My research suggests that reach is still in beta, and you submitted that track in may... it's an interesting time table.

I'm really thinking it's just these two guys. Both are spanish speaking users of Youtube, both cut and diced up my song to make it longer (and mind you did a bad job at it). I really don't know... but I could use help since if they want to use my song, by all means that's cool. But not if they're not giving me credit.

Pause right now. The -only- evidence we have of any sort of tomfoolery is two random youtube users.
There is no official information (that I can find) on a soundtrack for this game. It's scheduled to be released this time next year.

They probably just ripped a bunch of random tracks off the internet and put them together on youtube claiming they composed the album. You can try contacting them, but at the very least you can just put comments in the videos stating that the track is stolen from you, you have the date here to prove it.

Well, not technically "stolen" due to the nature of the CC license, but they are breaking the agreement because they are claiming that it is theirs as opposed to crediting you.

^ What he said.
Halo Reach is still a long, LONG way from being released. There's no way they'd be worrying about music at this point in development.
Not to mention the supposed 'soundtrack' has your song about 5 times in it. It's just some idiot kid trying to get internet famous.

I suppose for now I could ask Youtube to remove the videos while posting a comment on them saying that they were stolen.

Though it's not 'stolen' so much as 'used outside of the license under which they were released'

You'll find that random youtube users are either
A. Dicks
B. Idiots
C. downright assholes
Sounds like you're dealing with a special combination of all three of these characteristics.
I really wouldn't worry TOO much (I mean, yeah, you can complain to someone), but things like these always really blow up in the faces of the idiots who do this shit. So it's not that big of a deal.

Haha if it was Bungie, (which i doubt) you should have been soo happy that they took ur song.
2 reasons.
1. Its a blockbuster game worthy
2. You can sue for sooo much money.

So I went back to read the reviews on my song and did a good deal of hunting. And now I know why people associate my song with Halo.

IGN yoinking music from newgrounds? Sounds like you might be entitled to a lot of cash there buddy. They make money running that website, it's a business, meaning you should be making royalties.

"This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by HalcyonicFalconX."
I lol'd.
BTW, that orchestrated sequence you used is the "Mi Do So Re" sequence. Extrememly common in all genres of music especially if used in F key (Akon uses it a bunch). I even have a couple of songs with that sequence. The song I just released uses that sequence. It's a great sounding sequence of notes. So that would explain any confusion.

Yes, they do generate lots of Ad revenue. That and it's owned by FOX.
But honestly, I don't care about the revenue. What I do care about is that people say I stole my music because of this association they're creating in people's heads.
However, here I must give kudos to Youtube. I filed copyright claims on the two Youtube videos and both were removed. The uploader of one also manually removed one of the others he uploaded with the "Extended version" before the copyright claim got to him. I suppose I could copyright claim on IGN's Youtube uploads, but I'm waiting til they reply before I do anything.

Yes very true. And hence when people had first left reviews saying that the song reminded them of ODST and another one that asked if IGN had stolen my music, I just assumed that they had misidentified similar types of music. Happens all the time. But yesterday I decided to go back and read those again, check their dating, and scour the IGN site to find those videos.

IGN would have to have that video on their site to have it be stolen. Those youtube users easily could've just taken the IGN video and replaced the soundtrack with whatever they wanted.

Not sure what came over me, but i saw the 'contact us' button above the video, and decided to write an angry letter to the editors about this.
I've been having a shitty day, so this was a nice way to relieve some stress.
I doubt if this will have even made a fraction of a difference, but it made me feel better :P
Just for kicks, here is what i wrote:
I'm sure you have been informed of this already, but the song used in this: http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/85287 1/bungie-project-2/videos/haloodst_spc_h eadshots_montage.html
video on your website is stolen from www.newgrounds.com. The terms in the creative commons license on that website clearly state that it is for non-commercial use only.
I sat through an advertisement on that video, which immediately means you are receiving revenue from it.
The song used is here: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/2 40839
This is not only unfair to HFX, who is now being reprimanded by others for having 'stolen' this song, but it is also illegal, as this is theft. I would advise taking this video down.
As a producer, who also uploads to Newgrounds, this kind of thing disgusts me, as you did not even give credit where credit is due, and as such, I will be sure to boycott this website, and encourage others to do the same.
waits for someone to call me out on errors...

Thank you Rawmin. I sent them an email also, but they've yet to reply. Although after I sent the email, which only noted one of the videos, I found two more. In any case, what upsets me is that this is IGN. They certainly could've done better than this.
On another note, I've filed the Youtube Copyright Infringement form three times so far for 8 various YT videos, all claiming that my song was part of Halo Reach. Two Youtube users even claimed that they were the composer of the piece and that they were giving previews. The lul-worthy thing is that comments on each of their videos were commenting about how each of them had made claims to the song. lol

then by your logic Newgrounds owes a lot of money to a lot of people.
