Honestly the switch from carrtrige to disc pissed me off at first. sure discs are a lot more portable but if they got scratched too much they stop working permanenty. Carrtrides allways work until they aren't touched for like a year. In other words, carrtriges allways worked if you just keep using them and blow into them every now and then.

Uh what? Cartridges are virtually indestructable and are smaller

but if they got scratched too much they stop working permanenty.

Cartridges can also save ON THE CARTRIDGE, so you can actually bring a saved game to a friends house just by bringing the cartrige, also, if your console gets screwed, it doesn't mean all your saved games are screwed too.

And lastly, a ton of money is saved from memory card/hardrive buying.

It's the only way out!

If you manage to scratch up a disc so badly that you can't play it you're a retard. Just put the disc back in the cover when you're done with it, don't let them lay around on your desk.

I've never scratched a game up so that I couldn't play it, and I've used CDs to games since before PS1 came out.

Cartridges cost SIGNIFICANTLY more to produce, and have a lower capacity.

I thought this debate was settled in like, the mid 90s.

Cartridge games take less time to load and they don't need a memory card to save but they take longer to make and are vulnerable to screwing up if it's not covered by a lid or has lots of dust in them.

I had some issues with cartridges. But not as many as I did with discs. Mainly because my friend treated all his discs like shit and then gave them to me.

But overall, I was a cartridge fan for a long time after I had disc games. But discs soon won me over once I got hardcore into PS1.

I prefer cartridges. A disc gets scratched to unreadability within a few months in my house, but I've got all my old Game Boy cartridges, reaching all the way back to 1996, in perfect working condition. Discs take forever to load (even on the fucking 360!), and you have to buy memory cards, hard drives, whatever for saving. The higher capacity of a disc means nothing to me, because I play games for gameplay too, not just for cinematic cutscenes. If I just want cinematic cutscenes, I'll watch a damn movie. I benefit more from fast loading than from having three hours of movie footage on my game. Discs are popular for high capacity storage (much of which is often devoted to bonus footage or other useless extras) and for low cost, but for all that low cost I don't see lower game prices.

I know with the 360 and PS3, you can just take off/out the hard drive and your saves will be fine, if the problem is with the system, not the hard drive.....

There is no such thing as someone who doesn't like the PS3, there is only poor people who can't afford one. PS3 owners pity you and hope you can one day get out of poverty.

Cds because carts have batteries to save, if those batteries die then you have to start all over.

Carts are easier to cheat with so if like cheating, then use them.

However except on 360*, It may nearly impossible to cheat on newer console it's not impossible.
*This only takes xbox live into account, I imagine if your offline it wouldn't be too hard to cheat. If your online though you'll be banned.

The major downside of cartridges in my opinion is the fact that the memory inside isn't permanently stored, it requires constant power to keep from getting wiped. It sucked, because if the batter, for whatever reason, died, you were screwed not only out of your game but out of your save file.
I liked the system we had with the PS2 and GameCube, where the game was a disk, but the memory was on a separate stick, and the game case had slots to hold both.
This way, you never had to carry more to take it to a friend's house then you did with a a cartridge.

You can replace the battery. You just need a guide on replacing a battery for a certain game system. Like SNES or NES. My Pokémon Sapphire battery ran out so I need to replace it some time.

Prepare for unforeseen consequences.

Couldn't we pack more chips into cartridges today and have the same effect as a disc?

soon there will be a full fledged disc cover similar to a floppy but made for ultimate function.

It sure would justify the price of some of these games.

Actually most cartridges use a battery for saves, so that battery could die after a decade or so, and your saves are killed. It's a long running issue, and a good reason for them to switch ultimately.

I love my cartridges, but losing progress is terrible in those old RPGs.

You can't put a 12gig game on a cartridge.... unless of course, you want it to be the size of a small puppy

Cartridges cost a lot more to produce than discs, and they hold more memory.

Oblivion would only consist of like one dungeon and class if it were on cartridge.

Although, some of the cartridges required a better to hold the data. I know that my old Pokemon Silver can't be saved to anymore unless you change the battery in it.

I don't really see how anyone can realistically think that cartridges are better than disks. I just don't.

Personally, I think that the N64 is better than the Playstation and is going to sell more by the end of 95. That's my prediction for the future.

They stopped cartridges because it costs way much less to make CDS than cartridges.

Yes if discs get scrathed too much they stop working, but then again you're supposed to take care of discs.

As for cartridges, they are more reliable, but can't hold the same information as a disc can. Then again Animal Crossing for the Gamecube was released as Animal Forest for the N64 in Japan first. They look completely identical in graphics and gameplay.

Batteries dieing on carts make them inferior.

What goes on in your people's homes that discs are getting scratched to the point of unreadability constantly? That may have happened to one used game that I bought but it really is not that difficult to return games to their cases when done using them.

There's a lot of reason why CD's won the fight.
Cost Less
Take up way less space
Hold way more Data.
No battery issue
Shelf life is way longer then a cart
more fun to throw when your pissed you lost
I prefer Hard Drives and MeM sticks any day
can be played online
ANY ONE can make a game and put it on a disk
----------------------------------------
--------------------------
Oh and FYI Nintendo fucked up back in the day. They used ot have a contract with Sony and they were trying to bring out the first disk system after(i think it was after the NES...but it could have more likely been after the SNES) So that means the Playstation and N64 should have been combined to make the NStation...which im glad didn't happen but how crazy would that have been if Nintendo hadn't fucked over Sony making them take their design back home and jsut going with it....
