They don't always ban your gamertag, sometimes they just ban the console. There were reports of people getting their tags banned recently though, but that's never happened until now.

Piracy is pretty despicable in my opinion.

I spent my money on a video game, why the hell should someone else get it for free? Especially when the developers worked so long and hard to produce the game? I say nice move by Microsoft, a bold move especially because now they probably lost a lot of customers. Justice over profit, I like that.

though the pirates probably sapped more of Microsoft's market than benefiting it.

The punishment doesn't seem to be enough. Their accounts should be deleted if there is enough evidence that they have downloaded pirated games onto a modded console.

I think its important to point out that people who bought games from vendors who broke street date also got punished this way.

Example - You go to some run down store two days before a game goes out. You ask "Hey, do you have X behind the counter." Idiot who does not know when the game should be sold says yes, sells it to you. You go home, play paid for game, get banned from Xbox live.

Dunno how you guys feel about that, but I think that's kinda shady banning. I can see how a lot of the early sales can be negotiated with full knowledge of the early sale, but I imagine a lot of soccer moms have done it on accident, and now their lil Billy is wondering why he can't call people ni**ers over live.

Well, what happened? Was he told what he was banned for? DId he show proof of ownership of a legitimate copy of MW2? Or did he get fucked over by a scalper who sold him the game under the counter before the release date?

I would have been tempted too, but I don't do that sort of thing.
Also, I have no good gamertag or anything, because I have no live OR memory unit, so I just have shitty profiles on like my xbox and 8 friends xbox's.
I hope to get MW2 for pc soon though.

Not correct, playing games early doesn't have any affect. The guy behind this (or at least the head guy) has said even if you play games early you're fine because how could they police that? It's if you chip your console and play pirated material.
