Read the first page to know what's going on. Then if it's a really long thread I'll lurk at the back 2-3 pages to see where it's at now.

If a thread is 100 pages long, the discussion that occurred in the first 10 pages will likely NOT be the discussion that is occurring on page 99. In that case, I scan the last 5 pages or so to figure out the conversation and see if I have anything to add.

I definitely lurk more than post, but I'm not going to read through a 50 page thread just to "do something crazy".

Oh snap, you brought it. I've read all the pages of my Last.fm Club and 32 page What Game Are You Currently Playing topic, so a little under two hundred I suppose. It really isn't a contest. Lurking is more scanning and skimming through multiple topics and users and forum pages.
