ENIGMA'S SHOWCASE.

Well, I wanted to just post a doodle thing I did, but everybody's got this Showcase thing goin' on, so I decided to get in on it. I might update this every once and awhile, but don't hold your breath. I'll start with something I did this afternoon:

I was going for a realistic/cartoon-y feel, although I really don't know if I stuck it right. The Afro dude was kinda rushed, had some shit to do, but I still think he turned out good. Anyway, some comments would be great, and I'll post more some other time. Peace.

Enigma's good shit.

Thanks for the criticism man, I see what you mean there. I guess I could just touch up on that, practice it a bit, and really work on it. You really helped me out there, thanks.

looks weird but cool in a point of view.
it may even look greater if you put a background that matches the black and white situation

let it be, let it C, let it D, let it E, let it F, let it G

Looks good, I really like your line style. Do you have any other pics you can show?
Your next step for this is to add some colour and shading.

So how about you just don't post than?

There's nothing wrong with finding a style you like to work in and sticking with it. Line art is pretty cool, I'm digging what your showing so far. Would like to see some more work, maybe some that look like more thought out and completed pieces. Instead of just what looks like some doodles.

It looks like your adding random lines in places just to make it look like it has details....If they are supposed to be wrinkles, then you should know that wrinkles always have a source, they are like folds in your face. The way you have it, they are coming from nowhere

I like artwork like your's when people create their own anatomy standard that they use for most of their drawings. I'd like to see this colored.

lol

Also: As others have said, some of the lines there may be a bit unneccessary - and the afro guy's neck looks a little like a tree trunk (doesn't match up with the skull all that well) . And some of your other work would be good to see as it's a little hard to crit on just one piece. Cool stuff so far, though.

Fine, you want a crit? tell me what is anatomically correct about this picture. Thats right.. nothing, so giving you a crit about anatomy you would undoubtedly say it was the Style you chose. Perhaps i could give you a crit on your colors, well no colors. So what are you looking for? asspatting?

Mmmhmm

Many of history's greatest thinkers have noted that it helps when you're not a total ass about things.

using tons of thin lines isn't the same as detail

This sounds counterintuitive, but the best way towards skin & fabric details isn't in trying to fit as many folds and wrinkles in as possible but choosing just a few well-placed and effectively defined creases that give the illusion of stretching or hanging.

Another thing I would recommend is studying anatomically accurate drawings of skulls to get an idea of the way brow ridges, cheekbones, ears and the squarish shape of the cranium etc. affect the face.

You're assuming that he's striving to be anatomically correct, adding lots of wrinkles and folds is just a way of creating grotesque (and yes not anatomically correct) looking creatures/people.

That doesn't mean that you shouldn't try some figure drawing from real life, you're use of line and wrinkles needs to be more controlled. You can have a lot of detail in the insane amount of wrinkles and folds your character can have. It's important however to understand at the very least the basic anatomy of (in case of this drawing) the face, and how those folds and wrinkles lay on each other and their placement.

Woah, that's crazy. I was looking for asspatting! You must be, like, psychic or something.

Anyway, thanks for the criticism. I've had trouble in the past with correct facial structure, it seems that I've always leaned to over-exaggerated and unrealistic art, although I truly want to focus on Realism. As for the Afro man's neck, I know it turned out way too thick. I was going to redraw it, but boredom and the urge to play Diablo II ensued.

I'll try and implant what you guys were saying into another piece of mine, thanks again for the comments. I'll try and get something else up here this week.
