Ok, I understand some people may sweat and stink more than normal people, but why do they have to get a prescription for it? Why can't everyday people get this super-stick, are they afraid our armpits won't be able to handle the extra power?

It's not like somebody can overdose on deodorant, get high, or make a bomb out of deodorant (unlike other medicines or substances that require a prescription). What's next, prescription toilet paper(for those extra stinky dirty holes), prescription toothpaste (for those extra nasty bad smelling mouths), or prescription...you see where im going.

Depends. Usually prescription medications have effects that you don't want, and some have effects that are too strong for people who aren't afflicted with something. For example, a prescription antiperspirant could cause complications due to dry skin in people who don't actually have problems with excessive sweating.

Many times it's just because one of the ingredients used is a controlled substance of some sort that requires a licensed referral to get it.

Antiperspirants use tiny aluminum particles to clog your pores. You can develop tumors.

It could be because of the excessive amounts of aluminum hydrochloride, and other aluminum derivatives. This seems benign enough without any other information, but the last decade has seen a quiet debate over possible links with aluminum and alzheimer's disease!
So then the question of, "Do i want to sweat excessively? Or do I want to forget I sweat at all later in life?" becomes a very good argument!

Thank you, its a debate I've followed with a half open ear throughout the years. Haven't checked up on it in a while, but the hypothesis about too much anti-perspirant causing a toxic buildup of toxins and ultimately causing tumors was proven to be false. I do remember reading that article!

And yet, it doesn't even keep you from sweating.

Yeah they can. I read a news story about a guy that used so much deodorant it killed him.
