So i was browsing a well-known site, quite obvious which from the caption on the image, and it dawned on me that this road sign might not be very common or even exist at all in the US, hence the uploader not realizing that there's nothing missing and it's a correct road sign, signaling that you're at the wrong end of a one-way street. And yes, there's another sign that has the exact same meaning, composed of a full red circle with a horizontal white bar.

This got me thinking: is there an equivalent sign in the US?

I know of "one way" signs, but these seem to be at the beginning of the street in question. And there are "no [left\right] turn" signs, but putting up 3 of those at a 4-way intersection seems more costly than putting up just the one "don't come in here" sign.

Does the US have this road sign?

I've never seen that sign in the US, been driving for 4 years.

The equivalent in the US would probably be the "DO NOT ENTER" sign, which looks pretty similar, except it has text on it. That is of course if I understand your description properly.

I can say that I've seen similar signs but never that sign in Canada. Usually only on ramps to 400 series highways.

when you talk, i dont care what it means, shouldn't just stare at you, should i?

It seems you do understand. That sign basically means "Nothing is allowed this way", and is put on the exit junctions of one-way streets that exit onto normal roads.

If I remember rightly, most US road signs like that just use plain English, so a 'do not enter' sign sounds pretty close to the UK blank-circle thingy.

We have this one (minus the text) as well, as i'd said.
This just seems a bit dangerous to me since it's:

1) a pretty important road sign;
2) used everywhere on the planet except for the US (as i gather from how the thread's going).

Hypothetical situation where an american goes to another country and drives. Most road signs in the world convention are pretty descriptive (for example, an arrow curved to the right with a red line over it means don't go right). But this one is pretty cryptic, now that i think about it, for someone who's never seen it before.

So WARN YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY, specially if they're going out of the country on vacation. "Avoid the evil red donuts!"

Haha, I traveled to Germany a few years ago. Luckily for the German people I wasn't driving. But I could not figure out what most of the road signs were supposed to mean. Especially at intersections. That could have been quite dangerous.

The more i think about it, the more i worry for american tourists that decide to drive. In this spirit, i expose another semi-cryptic sign. This one is accompanied by a secondary information sign underneath that emphasizes and unintentionally explains the main sign:

No parking or stopping (even when sitting in the car with the engine running).

You will be towed.

A variation of this with only one red line is a "no parking" sign. You may stop the car as long as you're still in it. This is normally seen on streets where there are a lot of shops and a driver drops someone off who goes shopping for something quick such as tobacco, condoms, flux capacitor, then hurries on back in less than 5 minutes.

Trust me, cryptic signs have got nothing on trying to explain how a counterflow roundabout works to an American.

Even when they do get it, the "How does this not cause daily pile-ups!?" questions never really end.

I believe rental car agencies in Swindon should have insanely high insurance policies for american tourists based on that roundabout alone.

Oh, I'm sure they do already. Hell, UK insurance is one of the most shameless businesses around; they don't need an excuse this big to stick an exta few zeros on the end of an insurance policy, even one that's good for only a few days. Fuckers.

I'm portuguese and i wouldn't drive in Swindon. Hell i know english people that wouldn't drive in Swindon.

Suffice to say, most English cities were not really built with cars in mind. Some of them are practically off-limits to cars because the roads are just too narrow to let any meaningful amount of traffic through.

Stupid city planners. >:(

In canada, the sign posted in the OP doesn't exist. if you are driving the wrong way on a one-way, there is nothing really to warn you, minus cars coming at you in a hurry. The only thing we have that is remotely close, is the all red sign with a red line, which means do not enter.

We do have a sign that is similar design, but has a completely different meaning. It is a triangular shape, with a red border, and white inside. It means "Yield to the right away"

If the street exist and it has this sign well MAYBE the street is under construction, apparently. Trust me, we do this stuff in school.

We have that one too.

This one means the exact opposite (I have the right of way over all other intersection entrances). Sometimes it only has one of the left\right arms, but the meaning's the same.

Someone needs to pay more attention in class. C-Hawk was right as far as UK signs go, as is apparent by the UK government's official sign meanings sheet.

The 'no entry' and 'no vehicles' signs are pretty similar in their meaning but I'm guessing the former is used more on one-way exit roads while the other is used for pedestrianised roads and wide footpaths.

Or you could trust me, i have a license.
Fortunately, there's a consensus that we can reach which should quash this argument while maintaining an acceptable explanation for the sign:

If you see that sign, don't go that way.

Cool? Cool.

We have signs like that too, but different shape, and ours only mean "Intersection ahead" in canada, you are suppose to know that you have the right away on these intersection, unless another sign is posted that tells you "stop sign ahead".

Two more, but it's exceedingly simple to guess what they are (meaning the ones on the far right, the others are information signs in portuguese).

Maximum and minimum speed limits (always in km\h).

Side-note: as a general rule, solid blue circles symbolize something you must do (such as a direction or minimum speed, keeping those cute 3-wheeled motorcycles you've probably seen on movies set in Italy off the highways), red cicles symbolize something you must not do.
