I'm curious though: is there any one submission in particular that can be called 'most offensive'? I mean, there's loads of stuff that was made specifically for generating moral butthurt, but which one works the best?

I'll set the standard; if anyone can remember / find something more offensive than these, I'd love to know.

Yeah, probably this. Regardless of the events it was inspired by, had it been made with the events non-occuring, it still would have got media footage until something like this did happen and they had something to blame it on. Yet, with it being inspired on traumatising actual events, the media went nuts.

True; the assassin stuff came to mind when remembering all the TV shitstorm-ery ages ago. Then again, that was more down to people looking for scapegoats to blame for their own failings at spotting problems before they turned nasty, so it's not 100% reliable as a measure of true offensiveness.
