So a few weeks back I rented and beat Brutal Legend on 360. I was a little disappointed with a few aspects of the game but still loved it for its Metal nature (I'm a Heavy Metal addict, Metal is my life). And I was thinking about a sequel to the game. If you've played the game then you'll know how at the end (NO SPOILER) that Eddie defeats the bad guy and rides off into the sunset to do whatever. So there is certainly an opening for a sequel where a new bad buy could come along to destroy the Metal world again or Deviculus could come back or something.

Anyway that's not important, if they did make a sequel I'd want some changes.

First take out that fucking annoying RTS battle thing. It just bores the fuck out of me. I wanna be down there fighting people with my guitar and being part of the beat-em-up action, not watching it from above. What I think could change would be you don't fly around making people and making them go places. Instead you're just down there fighting your way around. You don't bother with merchandise booths and making more people, you just run around the huge battle field (or drive in the deuce) and fight your way to the enemy stage. You could still use the wings as a way of faster movement and slightly higher jumps or flying a little but that's it. You're army of Ironheade would be scattered around the battle field and as you make your away about the battle field you run into groups of enemies and also your army and you could make them tag along with you OR leave them be, not command everything they do. Also to make the fights more complex. Instead of simply going straight to the enemy stage you could have objectives like kill so many enemy's first or destroy the shield generators scattered around before destroying the stage etc. This is what we want. People liked this game for it's beat-em-up gameplay. With what I said we can still have those battle of the band things but in a way everyone will like it.

Next would be to make it longer. I finished the whole story in 2 days. Seriously what the fuck. Give it a WAY longer story also make it co-op.

Also include more music. We need Metallica, Iron Maiden, etc.

So those are my thoughts of what would make a nice sequel for the game. If these things were changed would you buy the game? I would.

I find that the RTS in Brutal Legend was realistic.

If you're playing any half-decent player, mess up once and you're fucked.

I know that particular aspect of the game was very love it or hate it, but I though the RTS battles were the best part of the game. The hacking and slashing was pretty generic, the open world was probably the most lovingly crafted that's a breath of fresh air and in terms of pure visual design far excels Fallout 3, but where it completely failed was in immersing the player in the world. There's the straight line of story-missions that's fun. but short-lived and everything else is busywork. In Fallout 3 you find quests that have some deep meaningful impact on the world around you. In Brutal Legend you spend twelve seconds fighting some guys. There were just one or two side-mission that had their own unique introductions. The legends you find give some cool backstory, but I think that information should have been delivered through gameplay not just through finding doo-dads randomly placed on the map.

The only time I was having real fun was when I was in the stage battles and unfortunately the story line really only had two real stage battles. Everything else felt like it was a tutorial leading up to the stage battles or the last battle which was sort of a twist on the formula which wasn't as exciting as a straight up stage battle.

It was still a really good game, it was just disappointing in the face of all the massive potential it had. So yeah, I'd really love to see a sequel that eally gets it right.

Ya I also enjoyed the RTS elements. Otherwise the game would have been nothing really interesting and just been regarded as a God of War knockoff. Yes I am a metal head and I enjoyed the world the game is set in and all but really the gameplay would have just been bland if it didnt have the RTS spine on it.

Oh yeah, also, I want Doviculus back for the sequel purely because Tim Curry did such a fucking fantastic job and was completely underused. Hell, the whole S&M freak demon army was completely underused. When I'd finished the penultimate battle I had really thought that I was only two thirds of the way through and that I'd be marching into the demon's home turf towards the final battle, but no, it just happened right there completely out of the blue. The story as a whole just felt undertold, it was great compared to most games, but it ended up feeling like it downplayed it's own epicness.

I got the same feeling. The campaign seemed like a tutorial for the multiplayer. I really hated the stage battles though. Then again, the hack-and-slash combat was garbage as well. There really wasn't any part of the gameplay that I found enjoyable.

Just like every single RTS game ever made. Except Pikmin.

It's got some cons but It'd be fun to just run around and beat the shit out of things with a guitar.
