Confused.

Ok so, i might get flamed for this but its been bugging me so fucking much.

This isnt an "IM GETTING BOMBED! HALP! NG IS SOO GAY" thread, im asking for help on production. Specifically my style.

Ok, so i have been making music for a while now, and have accumulated a kind fan-base that appreciate my music and style.

This all happened a about like 6-7 months ago, when someone posted a thread in the Forum saying i steal basshunter melodies and changing them a bit.

This is not true at all, yet people do not believe me.

People explained to the OP of that thread that he is confused and it is because my use of "generic chord progression" that it may seem that my melodies are similar.

Now about a month ago, i started getting reviews from an Alt account on some of my song and news posts saying i steal melodies, and am a basshunter wannabe.

I ignored it like most people say to do when attacked by a "hater".

Then it became more and more frequent. My song's dropped in score dramatically, and i started getting similar reviews.

Then, i found a song, that was directed to me, saying that i suck. The song in question was really bad, VEC Loops and a bad melody using a simple saw in Nexus layered with something idk what. It was just a bad song.

I wont say the artist of the song, just because ill seem like im trying to put the guy on the spot. But i also found out him and some of his friends (also not to be named) have been telling people that my songs suck and they are all basshunter copies.

I tried reasoning with this guy, saying "Basshunter has never been in influence in my music, i just enjoy catchy melodies and like when my melodies get stuck in peoples head (in a good way)"

Yet, he decided not to listen to me.

People have been telling me to change my style or just ignore him.

There are two problems with this.

1. I love my style and i developed it myself and scrapping would be foolish. I also make other styles, but they aren't usually full songs more like things on the side when im bored.

2. If i ignore it then he will continue to zero me and my songs wont get recognized. Of course i make music for fun, and yes you guys will say scores dont matter. But when i put effort into my songs, i would like to get my songs recognized. If they dont then my fan base will stay the same or maybe even lessen.

This guy is not willing to listen and continues to post reviews and other shit directed towards me.

So how do i deal with this? Get a new style? Bomb him back (Which i never did in the first place)? Leave Newgrounds? Start a new account?

Please help.

TL;DR: Some guy keeps saying i sound like basshunter, i like my style i didnt get influence by basshunter, yet my songs are getting bombed. I dont wanna loose my fan base and i wanna increase it as well. Only way to do that is to get recognized and with low scores its kinda hard. So how do i deal with it.

Small, simple advice. You shouldn't care.

For some reason no one has really bashed me except on that slicethepie.com site. But yet I have a lot of influences, and where people refer me sounding like other artists like Zimmer, Shore, etc.

If someone's bashing you for sounding like someone sucessful. Treat it like a compliment to yourself anyway.

I haven't listened to your work, but if your like me, you probably don't even come close to sounding exactly like someone else even if you tried. It's harder than it sounds.

So what if your melodies sound like basshunters. Mine sound like Zimmer's, Shore, HGW, JNW, Horners, Williams, etc. but they aren't there's they are mine.

But, yes. A lot of composers get haters and people who go out of their way to make someone else feel bad and miserable just because they feel the need to. If anyone asks, just stand up and politely say your view. Music comes from the heart, no? So just stand tall, and keep doing the thing you love to do and your voice will be heard through the lies and voice of the crowd.

I piss newbs off on the forums, and they often result to zero bombing my profile... And guess what... I don't give a rats ass, I've sold CDs, I have a fair sized fan base considering I can't gig (1 man band and all that jazz).

The scores here mean diddily shit, and you'd do best to completely ignore them, review other songs and ask for them to return the favor, just forget the scores, hundreds of people browse the site just 0 bombing for no reason. I dunno, maybe it makes their sad little lives feel like they're worth something, the point is, you are giving them what they want if you go around bitching about it... showing that they are getting to you.

I wouldn't go that far. It's a matter of taste too.

There are various rules on NG, and those are:

1. Slow intros are bad.
2. Short lengths are bad unless it loops.
3. Tech usually takes over anything else.
4. If you are decent, they may hate you for it.

Hate and envy, proof that you're doing something right in my opinion. I think the number of haters of my music, my studio, and me in general far outweigh the fans, but I take it as a compliment. Hate never comes without envy. So every hater is simply a closet fan, which more than doubles my fan count. Yay!

As to the two tracks I randomly checked from your uploads, I'm going to say this has envy written all over it. And, also, finish the Dazed WIP sometime soon, yes. Your melodies follow the chord progression of the average dance track but I failed to find a melody that was an exact copy of a Basshunter track. The little kids who are crying about this are just that, children. Ignore it, move on, and don't even pay attention to scores. NG's rating system is completely screwed up and has little to no hope for redemption really.

Well I meant today there really isn't anything truely original.

I mean, I could consider the score to BSG to be a bit original, but it still borrows elements from a ton of other music.
