I swear I've seen this thread before.
'l' and 'o' are close together, so sometimes it came out as ploz when someone went for plz. 'z' and 'x' are close as well, so that happens too.
Then, someone substitutes the 'o' for '0' and it catches on.

but that defeats the purpose. plz is quicker to type than pl0x, thus making pl0x pointless.

It's also quicker to type with letters instead of numbers, but people do it anyway.
