Link.

The article mentions that "Venezuela's consumer protection society would have full decision making abilities over what games to ban." But given the fact that this ban was okayed in the first place, I don't think many games will make the cut. Games that people want to play, anyway.

Different article by Venezuelan gamer Guido Núñez-Mujica.

The first article also mentions that it's 'three to five years' jail time for each sale of a game or a toy weapon.

So, what do you guys think of this?

3 - 5 years for selling video games? If anything, starving the public of videogames will make them want to play it more and when they do play it, it will affect them much more contributing to video-game induced violence and shit like that.

In a Western-European and American culture, videogaming is just natural and we know not to imitate the stuff we do on the games because we're used to seeing it so many times and we know that it's not real and there are consequences, but I bet you can still remember your first videogame and if you really enjoyed it, you would have been affected by it.

Now imagine someone who's not played a videogame apart from say, Mario or something and then they get their hands on Grand Theft Auto or Call of Duty. You just know somethings going to go wrong then.

Yeah, ban video games, put people out of jobs and take away another technology that we've been blessed with. I hear drug smuggling is the next big thing in Venezuela.

Sig by Cast. I don't get it.

Did Jack Thompson move to Venezuela already?

For years, mankind has made mistakes. Going on Newgrounds was one of them.

I find it stupid how people are making so many bans on this. Maybe if they actually made it illegal for little kids to play M rated games, and not squeak on the mic every fucking day.

And I already hated that strawdick Chavez, it's not just games, is EVERYTHING that goes against him. He already closed several TV and Radio stations.

All this demonstrates is the Venezuelan government's lack of understanding towards the effectiveness of large-scale bans.
All this will do is create a black market for video games, strongly fueled due to the fact that people want something bad if they can't have it, and worse if they have it and it was taken away.
The fact that this will be a back market will, unfortunately, only serve as fodder for the local officials to eat up and say, "Ooh, ooh, look! See how bad games are? They sell them on the black market! And the black market is bad!".
Over all, however, games will only become more popular in Venezuela due to the newly created black market.

I thought we all learned this back during prohibition?

How many people in Venezuela actually own a game console? Even an Atari 2600.

I'm pretty sure the Venezuelans have heard about it at this point.

Well, things like that only happen in countries that have dumb people that doesn't read shit about video games behavioral effects.
The problem is when a dumb country is near oblivius countries, which may cause a ban fever.Look, from my experience in my shitty country (talking about gaming, of course), this place is oblivius about gaming, the so called 'gamers' don't know the freaking existence of the Xbox360, which says a lot.

And all the rest of South America, considering it's poorer than Argentina, they might be more oblivius than mine.So simply I'm afraid of a ban-fever in South America. If that happens, no one will fight, there are no intelligent gamers in Argentina, so why in the rest of SA?

Conclusion: South american gamers might be doomed.

Socialism has dick all to do with censorship policies.

Although this is quite alarming; big Hugo is a proper authoritarian now if he's going down the road of clearing out the arcade cabinets!

Spare me.
