You know how annoying alternate accounts are. How come NG can't track the IP's of these alts and ban every one of their accounts?

Well, considering me 'n' Joshkracker share the same office thing. We'd be deleted probably.

Although, I am interesting to see the list of my IP's.

I asked a mod once and he/she said that they can't track IP's. They have other ways however.

What about admins, or more specifically, Tom?

If you read the rules carefully enough. You will find a sentence in their that states. In the event of obscene or violent images being shown in the BBS. Or indeed acts of criminal activity. They will pass your IP address on to the FBI.

So my guess is the admins can.

Admins (and probably site staff) definitely can track IP's, I have no idea why mods can't tough, they should have that option.

Well, I dont believe that. MAYBEon newgrounds you cant, but, im a mod on another site, and I see everyones ip that posts, and all the Ip's just visiting the site as well, so newgrounds they should be able to see youre here, even when youre not logged in, so either im wrong, your remember wrong, or that mod was lying.

Besides. The reason this is a bad idea would be. For example:

Say a family has two brothers who both have accounts on NG. They will both share an IP address. Therefore, if you propose to close accounts down by IP address, there's no real way to determine between 'Alternative' accounts and just two users who happen to have the Same IP.

Technically it's possible for anyone to get the ip address one way or another, though wouldn't do much for non-mods/admins (unless you have open ports).

I'm assuming that site administrators held the power for themselves because the rule to not post when your baned is held rather loosely. The only time that serious action is takened is usually when a user who was banned comes back as a alt to spam more. This isn't to say to make a new account now and spam/just use the other account, as you never know when a admin is on.

Furthermore, ip banning is rather redundant as the unfortunate fact that it's fairly easy to spoof ips and use ip masks/proxies or even to just change your ip. No matter what moderators do, to change our ip is so easy you can't stay banned forever if you know how.

As of last thing to point out, it's rather childish and a waste of your time to go through all the trouble to take 5 minutes to post more spam than for the 5 seconds the mods can 30-day ban you hm?

^ ^ ^ very true.

It's funny when people spam across dozens of threads, too... they probably don't even realize that all their posts regardless of thread can be deleted en-masse quite easily.

Most internet connections these days use Dynamic IPs, meaning that you can easily swap your IP by turning your router on and off, pretty much making the bans useless. And I think only admins have access to the logs anyway.

We aren't allowed to tell you guys about our tools, so lets leave it at that, hmm?

and some of you are getting pretty close to discussing things that aren't allowed round these parts with your proxies and scrambled eggs and ham and whatnot.
