Tobacco Free Campus

So first of i want to say that i don't smoke but this kinda pisses me off.

So they are going to make the campus completly tobacco free.
That's right, no one can smoke anywhere.
Now i can understand in buildings because of secondhand smoke but everywhere?
They all ready had it set up so smokers had to go 25 feet away from all buildings to smoke but now they have to off campus.
That's kinda bullshit, that they can just decide to take away some people's rights. Smokers are a minority here but this just stomps on minority rights.
Not only that but people can't use Chewing tobacco either.
Where is the justification in that? There is no way the can say that this can cause health problems to others.
Well everyone what are your thoughts?

it is a progressive step ahead. It just doesn't really seem fair that now they can't even smoke out in a field by themselves. They have to cross traffic and no doubt-ably stand in someone's yard to smoke.

Still plenty of smokers in the university I go to as well, and they just end up going outside grounds by any part of the fence and just do whatever they need there.

Fucking pig. She was in the car when she caught them, and there was a clear sign that said no cars on that path....

yeah it's a private institution. Banning smoking i can understand but the chewing tobacco to? That just doesn't seem right because the people using it aren't obnoxious about it.

Smoking isn't a right. It's not guaranteed by the Constitution, nor are public or private institutions required by any law to accommodate smokers. UMT is fully within their right to revoke this ability.

I believe they are banning tobacco products because of how people dispose of it. Perhaps they are not directly attacking people who smoke or chew, but are just trying to keep the campus cleaner. Think about it.. when most people get to the end of their stog, what do they do? If they arent near an ashtray, they drop it on the ground and step out the lit part. Hell, even I do it. I am not gonna carry a burning cigarette with me until I find a place to put it away. It may light all the way, and burn my hand. In addition to this, smokers tend to spit a lot. I would assume that people who chew will also just spit their tobacco wherever they are at, and move on.

I may be just giving them the benefit of the doubt, but perhaps they are just trying to keep a clean and friendly environment on their campus.

Smoking is a horrible habit that slowly kills you 100% of the time. They want to discourage it to people who DO smoke and they want people who DON'T smoke to not be encouraged to try it. Peer pressure and all.

you are probably right on the money. The officials here are fanatics about keeping everything nice looking. They are practicably have orgasms over how to mend and keep the grass pristine. I think the biggest budget is the landscaping and gardening budget. Don't quote me on that though.
