We don't actually see anything directly. Everything we "see" is just light reflected off of objects.
Thinking of it this way makes "seeing" itself lose meaning, but still.

that's kind of true, we never can truely see our faces as they are (mirrors show us our image in reverse) and pictures come out in 2D.

We haven't seen anything actually. What we see are representations of matter through light interpreted by our brain.
You could see your own face if you were in a black hole because the light would be bent, but technically speaking, all we see are light representations of matter.
Suck on that.
