Eyeballs are a liquid substance, mostly water, and therefore would "melt" as soon as they left our eye sockets. It's amazing that they can even be suspended at such angles without spilling. I know there's a barrier protecting it, or I'm pretty sure anyway, but I forgot what that is called.

Well, if you want to get technical about it, you never really see anything. You're only seeing the light bouncing off of it. So you'd never actually see 'your face' only 'the light bouncing off of your face'.
