You wont a under 3000$ motherboard? Dude what motherboard is OVER 3000$!! Thats a whole computer right there, and a dam amazing one at that. The motherboard is just one piece of the computer, and it by no means should cost you 3000$. I'd say you can get a dam good one for around 200-300. Idk what features on a motherboard would really make it worth much more than that.

You can buy a badass computer for under a grand if you do it yourself. Send the 4k on hookers or something...

These are the best people to ask. Though I think you're severely overestimating the costs of computer parts. That said you'll probably want quite a lot if you want two nice screens.

Hello sir.

1. What kind of computer setup are you planning on? AMD? Intel? DDR2? DDR3? Crossfire?...etc.

2. You do not need to shell out much on a motherboard unless you are

a. Planning on some insane multi-gpu setup such as, quadfire, Tri SLI, etc.

b. Overclocking to the max, meaning you should have at least WC

That site absolutely. I wouldn't shop anywhere else (except on the occasional eBay window shopping spree).

Oh gee. You have 5 grand. You can get yourself some 6 terabytes if you buy three 2TB SATA hard drives. Also, almost every new graphics card has 2 screen ports, and you can get three of them and hook them up to each other with SLI.

Oh gee. You have 5 grand. You can get about 8GB of ram (though totally unnecessary) and a 3.4Ghz processor. Get your facts straight before you go to a store with five grand and pick the crappiest, most expensive parts.

Insert witty, stolen sig here.

For that much, I recommend getting a core i7 build, with an HD Radeon 5870 in crossfire. With that EVGA Extended ATX motherboard.

Note: If you wanna use Linux or BSD get nVidia instead.

Hell, you'll probably still have some left over for a decent SSD with the latest firmware. Hold up, let me build it for you, I wanna see how orgasmically powerful you can build a computer for under 3k. o_o;

Just checked, it doesn't even go up to 3k just yet (as long as you can overclock) c_C

If you don't plan on getting a high capacity HDD, I'd recommend an SSD that fits your needs in terms of capacity, but if you play a lot of games, multimedia, graphical design I recommend at the very least a 500 GB HDD or bigger.

Also, check reviews if you decide to get an SSD, check if they have the latest and best firmware available. Last thing you need is crippled speed, low life-span, and stuttering o_O

You could buy a badass computer with all that money including top of the line graphics cards, sound cards, the best virus protection, and all kinds of stuff like that. I bet you could even get a custom made NG computer. (Not like those sneaky french's either)

Thats why I say no. :/

Even if someone doesn't use linux I don't think anyone should support a brand that doesn't play well with alternative operating systems, especially when there are better brands at about the same cost, of equal ot better quality that support a bit of everything.

Other brands I don't support at the moment: Creative, I dislike them. Google: Creative Labs Daniel_K to see why. :/

Meh, you can still get them but I'd prefer as little as people as possible support these brands :|

Or I could just be insane. :|

$5,000? The computers I've heard of normally don't cost more than $1,200. You should just buy it at that and not spend all of the time building a computer together. You should probably put that money into stuff like buying a car or even a mortgage.

You should try to do it in under $1000. Just because you have 5 grand doesn't mean you have to spend all of it on unnecessary features. What the hell are you going to do with a terabyte hard drive? My dad has one, but that's because he uses it to store thousands of high quality pictures. He hasn't even used half of it. You don't need the very best of everything. Just think about what you'll be doing with the computer, and buy the minimum features that you need for it. Save up the rest of the money and spend it on something else, like a car.

Why would you want to spend $5000 building your own computer? Once you get past the one thousand dollar range (when building yourself from scratch) the difference in quality isn't that great and your hardware can handle pretty much anything.

I say spend $1000 on a computer and save the rest.
