I don't know what homeless people are like with regards to their homelessness, I don't know if they're all upset about it or accept it and don't care. Today I saw 2 guys sitting in the town park near me, I was sitting there for a while and noticed that they were wearing scarves and had bags of what looked like clothes. I assumed they're homeless so I was going to buy them food, but I realise it's possible they aren't homeless and might kill me for trying to offer them food.
How do I tell if someone is homeless and how do I ask them politely? "Hello, I have money and I want to pity you, are you homeless?" might not go down too well.

The empty hat/mug with loose change in it is normally a giveaway. Did they have anything to collect money in.
If they didn't they are crap at their 'job' so to speak. (That's if they were indeed homeless to begin with)

I'm living at home right now, with my dad and younger brother. But things are really rough, lots of shit going on with my mum, and some drug dealers I owe are threatening this and that. But we're dealing with it all. I won't be here for long I feel, but I hope I can, Dad says if I get kicked out of school though I either gotta get a job or get out of his house, so we'll see what happens I guess...

Thats a tough one. Naturally though, I would take that risk of asking if they're homeless. Someone in Liverpool would take advantage of that regardless of being homeless anyway. I could say to someone "Hey, are you homeless? I can buy you food if you want." and even if they're a filthy rich well dressed person, they will still take my money from me, because thats what we do.

If they are a guy they usually have a beard, both to keep warm and they cannot afford to shave.
Bad teeth are a sign, since they are often malnourshed and don't brush.
They are dirty, wear the same clothes every day.
If you see them sleeping outside, that is prettymuch proof cuz no one in their right mind will sleep outside unless they have no home.
