Your not a real man unless you listen to music that you could eat yourself from the toes up too jkjk.
But seriously lets starts with a breif definition of what makes "Brutal" death metal and seperates it from normal death metal.
Subject matter is not nessisarly a seperating factor; I mean cannibal corpse doesn't talk about anything much more different then lets say cess pool of vermin or celotripsy. So what is it then? Well for starters encorporates "slam riffs" designed to sound as heavy as humanly possible. Often there is alot of added distortion as well as the guitars are as downtuned as possible in order to give an extra dramatic sound.
Now actual music aside, people who do not appreciate this kind of music don't consider any of the vocals as "singing" or an added component. In fact I find that it is a major discouragement for most people to jump from normal metal to death metal. Me myself I despise thrash vocals and black metal vocals; but my repitoire in my life is not particularly that open at this point. The clear difference is that it is often so distorted that there is no hopes of even understanding one word in it; just a bunch of grunts and gurgles where as normal death metal just says it in a raspy tone.
But whats the big deal, whats the point? Its music, wether you are ashamed to admit it or not. If you listen to it, and it has a beat that can be repeated (unlike most grindcore) then it is music. I want to discuss exactly what you think seperates said genre's; and its appearences in the music scene which I see as only a logical part of the evolution of music.
