Yeah, but the Phillies are the oldest one city one name team in American history and we've only ever won 2 World Series. The Yankees have bought practicaly every single baseball hero in history. Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, Marris, A Rod. The list goes on and on. Really it's just not fair.
Gehrig was a lifetime Yankee, as was Mickey Mantle. Ruth was bad business on the part of the Boston Red Sox, while Roger Maris was a part of the Kansas City Athletics "major league farm team" system for the Yankees.
I think A-Rod was a balanced trade, as Texas shed some payroll, which they needed to do, plus they received a damned good second baseman in Soriano. It's not that we buy up every talented player in sight - Cliff Lee and Chase Utley, for example, are great players that would take places on all star teams ahead of their Yankees counterparts.
Sure, they have more money than other teams and a salary cap would really fuck us over for a season or two. I think we're man enough for the challenge, so ask Selig nicely :P
