It's pretty hard to find on google, since the results relate to "Building an online flash game on a webpage", or "Building flash games online". I was just wondering how the online is incorporated into a game? For example, something like Host. Which I enjoyed very much.

Are you asking how to make a multiplayer online game on flash?

gotoAndPlay.com have a full section on making online multiplayer flash games. Id say it would be a good idea to start there.

Yes its very posible and not too difficult if you already have good AS knowledge but to be honest its a lot of work over nothing, online flash games really end up sucking if theres not enough people playing them and even then people dont really buy into it most of the time, when you can create a good... 'offline' game then go for multiplayer in it, otherwise your going to have to get ready for a 80% chance of flop.

Thing is most flash gamers just want a quick game , they dont want to get into it with a X360 controller and headset with HD visuals and online play.

Get a great original concept , otherwise dont waste your time.

My five dollars.

I had just mentioned one in my first post. A game called "Host".

All of those tutorials are utter CRAP. Consider them useless.

I made an engine with my methods (which were mocked by these very users, iirc), which require you to know PHP, as well as a good bit of action script. Without some kind of server-side knowledge, there is no way you can make an MMO.

I'm not looking to make an MMO. I'd just like to add a small online multiplayer mode, a 1v1 type thing. Would I still require the mass programming knowledge? If I do, I will simply learn it. *Cough* got tutorial links?

Non tutorials, too complex.

You're going to need to know what you're doing. If not an easy thing, especially if you have your sights set on an MMO.

And as mentioned above, 9/10 multiplayer flash games flop, I know, I've made 2!

Radical dude , even if your doing 1v1 you still need some server side knowledge , and like ive said its just not worth the effort and money (for the host) look at the top 50 games on NG , the top 200 even , where do you see online multiplayer ?

Just do something offline and launch it here , if its going well then invest in online shit

He's right. I'd quit now unless you're serious about becoming a programmer, and if so learn your shit first and you'll be able to do it in a year or 2 :)

I see. I guess I'll put it off, not even ponder the idea, however I shall upgrade my programming knowledge. Thanks everyone, you've provided great assistance.
