When I was in highschool, I thought I was a beatnik. I wore a beret, and had a goatee.

Do you know anything about beatnik culture?

Basically, all style as we know it today is a cheap ripoff of beatniks. It was the beatniks that made it ok for white people to listen to and make music originated in other cultures. Without beatniks, Rock and Roll could have never happened.

Beatniks made wearing black cool. Shit, beatniks made calling things "cool" cool.

God, I wish I could get a beatnik band. The closest I've come is improvisational punk and rockabilly.

When I think of Beatnik, I think of the media killing Kerouac's original representation of the Beat Generation. I love Jack Kerouac. And Allen Ginsberg. And William. S. Burroughs.

actual beatniks were only around long enough to make a bunch of rich kids go pretend to be homeless and call themselves hippies..until they got sick of it and went back to mommys house, and then off to college to avoid the war.

The cloesest thing we have to beatniks at my school are hipsters. They're not nearly as cool as beatniks and actually there not even cool to begin with, and overall kill the whole beatnik feeling for me.
