Ok.. look. George Bush is a BIATCH ok? We should get a president who actually does what so much people want and then maybe we could find peace in our country. But, there's also a loophole... many other countries who do not have well supported ties with us could hate us even worse if it's a dictatorship. Who knows? We might even be invaded?! (Knock on wood.) I finish this with a statement which is...
I am not gay but I believe gay marriage should be accepted.
Thank you for your time in reading this selection,

Nothin like election season...

this presents a fucked up situation. bush may have just screwed himself because if kerry does present the fact that he is against gay marriage, it could switch some swing votes over to kerry. since a lot of people don't like bush but don't know how good a democrat would do for them, Kerry taking a somewhat conservative stance could definitely get him more votes. since bush is clear about his stance on gay marriage, this wouldn't change the democrats' vote. liberals are hellbent on getting bush out of office, so kerry already has their votes locked away, despite his views on gay marriage.

so, while i support gay marriage, Kerry takin a stance against it could be the best way to get bush out of office.

Whats really funny about this whole arguement is the fact that Bush doesnt want "activist judges changing the definition of the 'most enduring human institution'". Thats the whole point of the court system of the U.S. If one court finds a law or some sort of action that they feel is being violated, they make decisions which set the precedence for future decisions, and possibly even for laws/amendments. Without any sort of activist judges, we wouldnt have many of the laws we have today. Allow me to play devils advocate here (My stance on the issue is obviously not needed in this discussion. These boards are not the place for it. Its just too inflammatory). What Bush doesnt seem to realize is, some judges may say that the whole gay marriage thing is wrong and then set precedence by that ruling. In short: The changing of the definition may even help his cause. It has happened before that things have changed so certain laws/amendments have been made or blocked. There is a possibility, albiet slim possibility that the amendment may gain some force.
But why learn how the courts and court systems of the U.S. work. Thats useless to the leader of the United States.

Whats this about marriage being "the most enduring human institution"? I thought that prostitution was the oldest profession, and that's still outlawed. Just because it's the oldest intitution doesn't mean that it can't be wrong (or not 100% right in this matter).

Why the fuck does it have to be marriage? Why do gays want to be accepted into a religious where they know they're not wanted (from the standpoint of religions and religious leaders)? What's so wrong with a civil contract? I think it's a good comprimise.

Since when was marriage completely a religious union? Also, saying they can't get married because of their sexual orientation is discrimination, period.

What's so wrong with a civil contract? I think it's a good comprimise.

That statement, sadly, reminds me of segregation in the south back in the 50's. African-Americans had to use different bathrooms, but what's so wrong with seperate bathrooms? I think it's a good compromise, so they don't have to share the same facilities as us "normal" people. Same statement, just the blanks are filled in differently.

finnaly Bush is doing something good. There should not be gay marriage, in fact there should be no gays. its a sickness, a horrible, horrible thing. This gay bullshit must stop! Gays say that if you think its sick youre a homophobe. WTF?! that means you realize that it is a sick horrible thing. There should be a ban on gay marriage, and it shouldnt stop there.

Marriage is a much of a religious initution anymore. Religion plays no role in my marriage. If I have the right to marry and get insurance from my husband's job, why can't a gay/lesbian couple? If I can have a child, why not them?
Yeah, I know my views are liberal but I've seen the harm that happens when religion is mixed with politics. I'd prefer marrige over civil unions because civil union only give state benfits.
A alot of conservates are against the amendment. Bob Barr (R - GA), who is very anti-gay, is opposed to an amendment for one.

i crack up everytime bush tries to do something like this. he comes out with this huge controversial issue, and then seems genuinely surprised that not everyone agrees with him. he gets angry that he can't just get his way without all this intervention. he just always seems like he's not ready for opposition, like anything he says will be accepted because he's president. that guy cracks me up.

The real fun fact in my opinion, is that when a president or prime minister in ANY european country would come up with something so incredibly intolerant as forbidding gay marriage he would practically be lynched. What does this say about the tolerance in the country with "liberty and justice for all"?

when has he exhibited anger over people's opposition to his policies?(if i am ignorant here then please, by all means enlighten me)

i have seen him behave in a manner quite the opposite of what you accuse him of, during protests (i forget what it was but it the protestors were voicing an opinion that contrasted with his views/policies) he he has been quoted as saying "that's good, that's democracy".

don't take this the wrong way but it seems to me that you are projecting some idea of an enemy onto president bush in some attempt to demonise him. possibly to rationalise an offensive opinion of him or something, but from what i have observed your above statement seemed highly innacurate.

And what if (one day) you have kids and one of them turns out to be gay? It really isn't a lifestyle choice that they make. Honestly, do you think that after all of the years of seeing and hearing how Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender's (GLBT) have been treated like the scum of the earth, that so many decent, hard work people wold stand up and say "I'm gay"? If being gay is horrible, than having the freedom to be who you were born to be must be a crime against man-kind.

Personally, I think an amendment to the Constitution is taking this WAY too seriously. Leave it at the state level, Bushy.

And frankly, I don't care what your sexual preference is as long as you have children and raise them to not be idiots.

actually the law makes no discrimination based on sexual orientation. homosexuals can get married to someone of the opposite gender, in that respect they have the same rights as heterosexuals(who cannot marry someone of the same gender either). so to say that homosexual couples are discriminated against is entirely innacurate, it is just that the rights that they do have are not well suited to their preferences.

What a fucking idiot, Bush....

If religious rights wants to ban gay marriage, they'd probably wanna ban divorce while they're at it.

Bunch of hypocrites, that's all I can say

No, see this is bad. First of all if they can ban people getting married. What stops them from making other laws that might infringe on your rights.

marriage should only ever be between a man and a woman.
