Which manufac?

Decided to use ATI until Nvidia gets their head out of their ass and reduce prices by like 70%

Probably going for Sapphire, those assholes and their 20% markup better be worth it for the customer service if I get a dead card

Get a Geforce 9500 GT
Better than any radeon, and less than $100
Also, fucking amazing performance(~60+ fps) with all settings on high, for pretty much any game

Programming languages I know: AS2 and TRS-80 BASIC

The Fermi? Why don't you just wait for the Nvidia cards they are coming out in December I think.

Unless Nvidia releases something that offers more than ATi at a similar or lower price I will probably end up getting a 5850 and possibly another later on for crossfire.

According to wikipedia Fermi is gonna be cheap but you can't really trust that

Only if you're playing games from like 3 years ago.

Looking at review tests, at max settings you'll get about 28-30 fps average on COD4 on a reasonably high-end system at 1280x1024 res; with bigger monitors, more like 17-20.

In my opinion; don't buy an ATI card. When they've stopped blowing all their time and money on hyper-enthusiast gimmicks like multi-screen panelling, give them a shot, but otherwise I wouldn't consider them too hard.

In my opinion any GeForce 200 series or any Geforce in the 9000 series from the 9600GT seem like the best mid-price options by far right now, the GTX 260 hits a reasonable sweet spot and anything more powerful than that in the 200 series will do you really nicely on anything. Don't know so much about the higher-end 9000s but they're really great for the price from what I've seen on paper and in demonstrations.

to be honest, don't listen to me at all though
somebody will totally give you better advice than me, i guarantee it
