Put time and effort into everything you do , be humble and try to push yourself to do better , you dont just get up and animate The lion king off the bat do you ? get your roots in or your going to topple over and rot to death.
Your idea sounds decent and you said black and white so learn to use greyscale right and tone things properly, why was there color in that link ? one thing that helps with doing something cinematic is imagining it as live action , thing of great camera angles , what you have now is pretty plain and boring.
Think dynamic , think perspective.
Like i said , learn, learn by doing of course but theres a lot to the theory,and know your limits.
