The problem is learning guitar by tabs off the internet.
Seriously go out of your way to hire a teacher to teach you the fundamentals.
You wont learn what you need from the internet, maybe just a few songs.

I think I know what you mean. E.g. a stretch that seems too long for your fingers or making a F-chord. Don't worry, with time and practice your muscle memory kicks in and your ligaments stretch. I remember a time when I couldn't even make a decent A-chord and how awkward it felt having 3 fingers atop of each other.

A teacher isn't as necessary as everyone thinks.

I learned from the Internet, and I can make barre chords and my chords transitions are pretty damn fast. Just takes more practice. If you really visual on basic things, there are plenty of video tutorials that give almost the same amount of instructional information.

But teachers are nice, if you are willing to spend the money.

First of all (like everyone said :P) get a teacher
Second, start with songs that are actually possible for beginners, no over-complicated riffs or anything, maybe some songs that only have powerchords
And maybe you should try to learn songs by the ear, it may be a bit hard in the beginning but it will really help you advance musically

If you've just started then it's probably going to be hard to play any song properly.
It's more important that your playing it right then if your playing it at the right speed, so start slow and then once you can play it pretty easily speed up a bit.

I started of just trying to play tunes that I thought of in my head. Now I can pretty much listen to a song or riff and play the right notes not always the right speed.

You probably have a few issues with how you place you hand around the guitar, where your thumb is, how you hold the pick, and other things. You SHOULD learn these things off a person and not the internet. If you have any friends that can play the guitar WELL, go learn it off them.

I don't know why everyones being an asshole today.

Chord work can be tricky when you first pick up a guitar. Simple changes from a C to a D to a G can be challenging and confusing. Then there's barre chords which confused me a hell of a lot when I looked at the tab and then there's some which just seem impossible to stretch to.

It all becomes easier the more you practice chords. As you learn to switch between chords more fluently, your fingers will become more flexible and be able to make large stretches that were previously impossible without causing damage. e.g.
D|7
A|5
E|3

Barre chords show up like

e|2
B|2
G|4
D|4
A|2
E|2

and you have to wonder, How do I get my fingers to do that? You've got to place your whole first finger across all the strings on the second fret and then add on your third and little finger on the 4th fret of the G and D string. Barre chords seem to be the most technically challenging to people, but it depends on your playing method.

You'll soon learn that if a chord seems to hard, you're probably doing it wrong. There will probably be a mix of barreing, and general finger placement. If the change seems too difficult to another chord, try making the shape a different way if possible that looks more like the next chord you're changing to in terms of muscle memory. For example, a D chord can either be used with 3 fingers through individual finger placement or two fingers, with barreing and then sticking your third finger on as well.

Good luck.

I suggest getting a teacher but if you can't afford one practice you're finger placement. I am self taught and have had a guitar since I was 13 (I'm 17 now) and I should know a lot more then I do. I suggest getting a teacher for at least a year. Also make sure you have a decent guitar. Some cheap ones don't even have the right number of frets.

I'm not good or anything, but it's something you adapt to. I remember when I gave up when I as like 8, and I asked my dad to teach me (he was a guitarist). Why? Because my fingers hadn't developed callus, I was moaning about all the pain in my hand (which was actually only a little strain), and about the whole fingering business. Don't quit because of that, you'll adapt to it as you practise more, the same way an artist would have higher detailed pictures after more and more practise, or a drummer would have increased speed in drum rolls.

Sounds like you just need to practice your basics.

I'd give up on learning songs for now and go back to the rudaments. Practice the very, very basics... finger placement, hand position, changing between chords. Work all of those with diffrent tempos, picking speed, and picking styles. (IE: 8th notes down strokes, 16th notes alterhanting picking, skip strings, etc...)

The fact is, you can't do it... that's why you practice. If you could do it from the start, you wouldn't need to practice... you'd already know how to play. Don't get discouraged that you can't do it... that's the point of practice.

I took lessons, which helped tons, but the other 6 days of the weeks I learned by studying my ass off... I stared at pictures of my favorite musicians and watched tons of videos. I took note of the angle of their wrist and fingers based on what notes they where playing. I tried to mimick it... now days you have tons of help online so don't be afraide to youtube hand placement videos and the such. Seriously, you'd be suprised at how much something minor like the angle of your wrist can hinder or help your playing in the long run.

I suggest lots of scale work. Then chords. When you can run the scales smoothly and switch between chords with ease, then go back and pick up that tab you can't play. See how much better you are.

When I got my first guitar my goal was to play songs from the Appitite for Destruction album by Guns N Roses. I bought the book first thing and every other month I'd try to play a song. It took a long time but slowly I saw I was making progress. It's always nice to have both short and long-term goals. My short term goals where the basics... learning scales, playing cleanly, etc... long term goals where complicated songs and entire tab books.

I have no idea if any of that helped.

Tramps pretty much covered it all.
All I'd say is, keep doing what you can do, and remember that you're going to progress slowly.
If you progress very quickly and can do everything first time, you're probably doing it wrong.

Well, I'll tell you this now: you DO NOT need a teacher to learn. Here is a site I use whenever I have questions about how to do something on the guitar.

http://www.cyberfret.com/

Another good thing to do is listen to a song you like, find a tab, and try to match the notes. That and you should try to play along with the song you are learning, so your end product doesn't sound like a bunch of beatless notes. And use video lessons to your advantage.

Are you having trouble fingering the chords they're asking for correctly? The only way to get better at that, I'm afraid, is to practice fingering those chords. Take the first two finger positions of the song you're trying to learn, and practice shifting between those two chords. After each shift, you should strike the strings to make sure each one is ringing clearly. Correct any mistakes. Then shift to the other chord (even if it's easy). Keep practicing that transition.

As your fingers become more used to that chord and how to get there quickly (when I first started, I had to fret each finger one at a time to make a chord, open C maj to open G maj would always cause my third finger to lag behind the others in finding the right fret. Took a couple months to even be able to shift between those two properly and at speed, but now I can play GCDC chords, or any other similarly easy open-position chords (Am, D, Dm, D7, E, E7, Em, A, A7, G, G7, etc.) with relative ease in quarter notes) you'll notice it gets easier to quickly shift between the two. Once you can move fast enough, try to finger the next note. You should only work on transitions that you can't perform quickly, if you come across a new fingering that you can get to relatively quickly, you need not practice it as much right away.

Another tip is to practice the Pentatonic scale in the key of A (google it), or the chromatic scale. In fact, you should practice the chromatic scale to warm up and cool down every practice or play session. Look 'em up on google.

Basically: it just takes practice. Your fingers aren't functionally unable, you've just never asked them to do these things before. So at first it's going to be awkward and sound pretty terrible. Think about the awful drawings and writing assignments you got A's on in elementary school that your parents hung on the fridge anyway. But after more practice, you'll start to get better and notice improvement.
