This is going to sound totally lame but I feel for you man, nobody deserves to have their mother killed liked that, but I'm glad the guy responsible is behind bars and you can get some closure on this.
as an aside, I don't think that you can enforce a life sentace/ death penalty for ANY offence, 26 years is still a lifetime spent behind bars.
