The only good reason why they kept it for so long was because when it was introduced it had a purpose to give people the exact change.

OP, I only keep pennies if they were made a long time ago. I have a penny made from 1973. How it survived that long, I don't know. I've seen some from world war 2 so...

I throw them away or on the ground. I've no use for them and I don't like touching money anyway, especially coins.

Every little bit helps.

I collect all pennies and throw them in my big coin jar and forget about them until they day I turn them into cash and make millions.

I donated $6 in pennies I had laying around for a penny drive at school that benefited leukemia patients.

I throw them in a 5 gallon water cooler drum along with all my other change and take the thing to the bank while I'm still able to pick it up, pennies included. I don't waste my time sorting them out from the rest of my coins.

I try to give my pennies away as soon as I get them. For example, if I receive some pennies as part of my change at a convenience store, I put all of my pennies (and nickels) in their tip jars.

I would never just throw away a penny.
But I wouldn't go out of my way to save one.

In fact, there have even been occasions where I've picked some pennies up off the ground to slide into my pocket.

In Australia we only have a 5c and no I dont think of it valuable I flick it up and down with my thumb until it falls on the floor leaving a small animal to choke on it.

I hate people who hate pennies. "A penny saved is a penny earned," as an American proverb would say. That to me means, if you don't make the means to save your money, you don't deserve to keep it.

I have a shit-ton laying around my house. If I have to I sometimes use them for bus fair. But other than that, not really.

Not valuable but i do have a wallet full of coins becuase i like to pay the exact amount if i can saving me getting change, which i would have to spend on things that are the exact amount available in my wallet otherwise i would end up with change that i would have to-you see what i'm saying?

Well I have a place where I keep all my change, and when that jar is full I take it to bank and put it on my account, so yeah I use them, and I pick one up if I see it in the street and I don't throw them away.

If I find I a penny on the floor, I will take it.

I don't even keep change half the damn time. It's either bills or don't hand that shit to me.

The government should stop minting pennies.

Pennies are worth less than the zinc and copper they are made out of, and they are ridiculously expensive to mint. Most people don't even use them. I say we should just get rid of them (melt them all down for the copper and zinc) and round up all purchases to the nearest nickel. Actually, scratch that; take it to the quarter and get rid of nickels and dimes too.

In my dazed state, I swore the title asked "Are penises valuable to you?"

If I have a ten dollar bill i'd probably save it, unless there's something I need/want to buy. I I had ten dollars in coins however, I'd actively search for an excuse to spend it.
So yes, I value paper more than metal.

You, sir, are obviously not Jewish. Pennies may not be good for much, but when you need them, you never have them, so its always good to stock up on a few rolls of pennies.

Besides, pennies are money. I'll bet that you will have a couple dollars at the end of the month if you collect every piece of change you see on the ground.
