After 10 months of specialized training in engineering and weapons the Marine Corps has called me to the war in Afghanistan. Currently stationed on Okinawa Island, Japan, I'll officially be sent to war in May of next year. Between now and then I've got jungle warfare field op on this island, cold weather training in Fuji, Japan, and desert training at Mojave Viper in California.
My whole life, I was the type to watch the news and hear about the routine deaths of military personnel fighting overseas and honestly not think twice about it. I had never imagined that my moment would come where I'd be in that position. I guess I just took everything for granted. Now I have to live with the reality that at any moment my life could be ended by a roadside bomb, IED, or sniper.
November is the last month I've got before this all kicks off. Then things are going to start getting crazy. Wish me luck ;)
