This is true for the most part.

If you live in Alabama you will most likely be Christian because this is what the majority told you to be. If you live in Jerusalem you will be Jewish for the same reason. If you are in Japan you will most likely be atheist.

Most people are their religion entirely by chance and where they are located. How does it make you feel that 90% of people get their morals from the roll of some dice.

Nah, Japanese are more likely to be "Agnostics with Cultural leanings of Shinto"
There are a lot of atheists there, but there's also a lot of prevalence of folk legends there.

I live in California, so does that mean I'm likely to be Catholic because that's what a lot of immigrants here are?

It's about as insightful as pointing out that people speak Spanish in Spain, French in France, Portuguese in Portugal, English in England, Chinese in China, etc etc etc. In other words, 'durr no shit'.

I wouldn't say it's THAT high, but I know what you mean. People will tend to go with whatever their parents believe, so it's hardly surprising that things stay separated from each other like that. You know, communities and all that.

Of course, some people think more than that about it, and will decide for themselves, but those that don't are what cause the patchiness in belief systems and regional areas.

It really highlights the bizarre-ness of believing in a specific set of beliefs, when the theist must know that the only reason they are believing in them is because of the sheer chance that they've been born into a time and place where that particular religion is popular.

I highly disagree, I grew up in a family of Christians, and I chose my own religious views.
I know a lot of people here who have religious families, and they themselves do not believe in any higher power at all.

Well freedom of religion and seperation of church and state are both fairly recent developments in the course of human society, give it some time to spread. Besides in all times of crisis people usually look to their own self interest rather than adhering to their personal bonds of spirituality or philosophy. If you ask me deep down inside we're all either secular humanists or mentally unbalanced.

I know a lot of people here who have religious families, and they themselves do not believe in any higher power at all.

In both instances it'd be difficult to claim that your views or those other people's views were not in any way influenced by their upbringing or surroundings. Like language, you're more likely to frame your beliefs in the same pattern that other people in your general area do, but also like language, it doesn't exclude you from ever learning other ways to communicate those views.

For instance, the fact that you were ABLE to choose your own religious views is, itself, a product of your surroundings. Not everyone is in the position to do that and still be 'accepted' in their family or social group, not everyone has the interest to research other belief systems (or to formulate their own), and not everyone even has the access to information about other belief systems even if they DID have the interest. So anyway... even you choosing your own religious views has at least something to owe towards your location.

I wish that was far more true.
Seriously, muslims need to GTFO my country.
Well, at least a fair amount of them. There's too damn many, and I'm fed up of their passive yet aggressive way of telling you Jesus is not the son of God and just a prophet. Fuck off damnit.
Back on topic, I guess you're right to a degree, but some people convert.

That's funny, I'd have figured it more likely that people would be annoyed over ANY talk about Jesus, not just the particulars.

That's the particular one that really annoys me.
Seriously though.

Never heard of anything like this. I know a whole lot of Muslims and I've never heard them mention their religion at all save for when they're buying halal meat. Besides, can you justify why being born in a nation gives you a birth right over other people to live there?

Alright well I agree that it's retarded when it's accepted to question one group's beliefs but with another group it's not accepted to question their beliefs... but, still, I mean... you DO get where they're coming from with that particular point, right? I mean, for one, he isn't "just a prophet", in Muslim belief he's going to come back and actually KILL al-Dajjal (the Antichrist) so he's still immensely important to them. Besides which, when he was originally accused of blasphemy he quoted Psalm 82 saying, "does it not say in your scripture 'ye are gods'?" which in the psalm continues "...all of you sons of the Most High". Soooo... to really believe Jesus is the ONE, the ONNNNLLLLLYYYY 'son of God' is kindof a corruption of the point he was trying to get across, I think.

Yes, I understand and respect their belief, I think it's quite a good religion as a whole, but I'm fed up of the followers of it.

When they start letting Christians live in their countries without looking for every excuse to blow the fuck out of them, they can live in ours.

fair 'nuff, but that does kinda remind me of what Gandhi said way back when...

"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."

i mean, basically, when you identify yourself as of being this group or that group, you inevitably give cause for someone else to project upon you all the supposed attributes of the group no matter what your individual nature is. all Muslims are annoying then, because really, some Muslims are annoying... but those "some" still occupy more of your mindspace than the silent majority behind them.

a vocal minority fucks up a lot of things for the factions they claim to rep. just imagine if people started to think of the Westboro Baptist Church as THE iconic Christian congregation. it'd leave a foul taste in damn near everyone's mouths.

I think I'd just die if that happened.
Still, the ones I've come across annoy the fuck out of me, not to mention the councils all bending the fuck out of the law to suit their needs as opposed to us non-muslims.
