Get him alone, somewhere -- not in an alley way, but somewhere like a park or close to a building.... somewhere public. Talk with him, ask him exactly why he wants to fight you. Try to work something out from there. If he just says something along the lines of "cuz you're a stupid little prick," then make him a deal that you would give him weed for like a week or something. Don't be scared either, those pricks who smoke and do nothing but fight seem to have a good nose for fear. You shouldn't be scared anyway -- you aren't that motherfucker's bitch. So don't act like a bitch.
Now, if that doesn't work, then you can try fighting him, after school; outside of their jurisdiction (meaning that they cannot get involved, or they have a very minimal role in the whole entire situation.) You said he'll bring his mates? Bring your fucking friends, mate. Show him you're not a pussy. Or you can always just let him get the first few hits, but try not to hit back, just restrain him -- it'll be self defense then.
