I've been really into that stuff (particularly at substance parties) but I don't know how exactly it is made.

Box killa stop, no one wants to hear you complain. He did not advertise any of his music which makes you look dumb. You're mad, take it out on something other then the internet no one cares.
Thanks.

Average tempo is about 140 BPM
Focus on drums and bass.
Usually the bass has a (slow) oscilating attack envelope.. I think... thats what gives it that 'wah wah wah wah waaaaaah waaaaaaaaah' sound.
Make it grimey, and interesting.
I find with dubstep it gets boring after the first 4 bars, and all my ketamine or pillhead friends listen to it and think it's "Phat".

Well, I was mainly thinking about DubStep DnB. I am familiar with this "wah wah" but have only used in in Audicity. What software would best suite DubStep?

Ahh cool, dubstep dnb would be cool.
Any sequencer should be good to make it with, Ableton, Cubase, Nuendo, Reason. Fruity loops maybe?
I'm guessing you will be using samples or midi?

I'd like to make my own samples & remix them. Scratch all the way. However I am a very, very new person who only writes a few instrumental tracks & then rapes them with free programs. I have recently learned how to program my own music for Super Mario World hacks. I would be happy to read a really long tutorial to understand what you mean & how to use the appropriate software for DubStep DnB.

What I find really good for my Dubstep bass is Poizone, It's really easy to use the LFO and really flexible to create new and creative things.
The kick should be really low, nothing with to much high frequencies, a short snare, and barley any cymbals. Dubstep is all about the bass. Leads are rarely used but can be used, usually something low and industrial sounding.
And I think using chorded soft pads in the back of dubstep is amazing, so try that too.
Good luck

Yeah in my latest audio submission i used the poizone for the bass-synth. Although, massive, vanguard, 3xosc, albino are all good too. Anything thats got a lfo func on the synth really, if you cant do it using the synth specifically, i use fruity formula controller and modulate a filter in the mixer. I tend to use fuckloads of effect plugins on everything too.
As for fruity loops, lolololol, if you wanna legit version you gotta buy it. ELSE, torrents are aiiight ha.

Dubstep is a sub genre of DnB
It's like saying "Hard rock"

Nah, fully disagree threre. Theres dnb-step, which has similar drum patterns to dubstep at 170 odd bpm which you might be meaning, but dubstep is a totally separate genre at 140 bpm or near.
This should explain:

You said you only use free music programs, right CLAW? Which programs do you use? I checked out some of your songs and it sounds like your just using Audacity. If any of your friends have a program see if they can put it on your comp.

Any sequencer/DAW can write dubstep, its shockingly simple music. Its basically a mix of DnB and reggae (typically bass line).
Take your tytpical DnB 2step drum beat, slap it on, plop on the raggae lilt-ing bassline, drop the bpm from typical DnB speed of 160ish to like 130.
Take a bass instrument and add a filter cutoff LFO (or just automate in some way or another).
Then proceed to write minimalistic tracks, and just gradually have your warble bass line come in and out, and toss in other instruments with similar filter LFOs.
Most dubstep has 2 basses I find, then pads and blippy little sounds, no super strong high freq lead, since that kind of peirces into the general smoothness of the songs.

I used the Windows Millennium sound recorder at first, it's more static, retro & electronically sounding. See, my style has always been limited colour & pixelated art, plus retro tune audio. I am a 90's man. I mainly use instrumental programs like Anvil (something (which is also used to program music in my Super Mario World hack)) & Audicity or Sound Recorder XP to rape it. Sometimes I even write a song, rewrite the notes backwards, produce it & then reverse it so it's in tune with reversed instruments. I go for eerie & old effects. To answer your question, I have a very small amount of friends, none of which who are computer geeks.

I know what dubstep is, I've been making it for a while.
And in my opinion, dubstep is a form of DnB, since its origins are in DnB, and it was inspired by DnB.

I think DubStep is similar to DnB, but it doesn't always have drums. I'm talking about a fast paced dance DubStep DnB.

So does Jungle wich is now renamed DnB. Because Jungle had a bad reputation. So they had to make a new sound similiar to Junlge so that is how DnB was born.
So jungle(raggae jungle) was originated from reggae. And DnB was orginated from Jungle. And Dupstep from DnB.
Or you can go even deeper. All electronicly produced songs are originated by House and then came techno and then trance and then dance and you can fill the rest if you want.
